Let’s be honest, neighbourhood walks are monotonous for both dog & owner.
Many people struggle with knowing what to do with their dogs otherwise. Here are some alternatives to the standard neighbourhood walk, to help you change things up!
1. Hiking; my personal favourite! Get out in nature with your dog, you’ll both feel happier. Many cities have great trails & rail trails as an alternative to more intensive hiking. Try using the AllTrails app to find trails near you!
2. Intentional play; does your dog like tug, or fetch? Do a little obedience & use your dog’s favourite way to play as their reward.
3. Group classes; a great way to learn new skills with your dog, or simply just to have fun & a change of pace.
4. Obedience & trick training; teaching your dog some new commands, or a cool trick, is a great way to connect & also mentally stimulate your dog. Check out https://domorewithyourdog.com to get started with training tricks!
5. Training & participating in a dog sport; not only is this a great way to enrich your dogs life, it can be a great outlet for your dogs natural drives & a good way for you to make new friends 😊
6. Training in public spaces; working on exposure & neutral behaviour in public spaces, is a good idea at any age. If you are going to go into stores, please make sure your dog is well behaved, recently pottied, and the store IS dog friendly!
Have fun with your dog ❤️
