Hank here came in for a satisfying spring refresh and I figured this would be a great time to explain what can go into the timing of a groom⏰
Sometimes pet parents don’t fully understand what goes into their dog’s pampering and that’s totally ok! When I first started at a grooming shop for a high school co-op in 2014 I also thought it would be a quick & easy thing for everyone 😂 Obviously each dog has their own quirks, coat type, and it does depend on the exact service you’re looking for but some grooms can take a lot longer than you might expect! ..Or be a lot quicker🏃🏼♀️💨
Hank is a very well behaved, approximately 2 year old husky mix that is well taken care of at home (lots of brushing!) and this appointment took 3 hours🤯
His appointment included:
🧐 A quick look over to check for things like new lumps or bumps, matted areas, parasites or skin conditions and to game-plan based on coat condition! I will also do the nail trim at this point.💅🏾
🫧 An hour-long double bath with a regular face wash followed by a berry facial, a blown-in shampoo & conditioning x2, a brush-through and a high pressured rinse to help remove some dead undercoat, followed by a relaxing and thorough final rinse.🚿
🪭 Approximately an hour dedicated to a proper drying including a force dry/blow out and a fluff-dry with the use of different brushes/combs and a multi-functional coat enhancer. This aids in removing excess dead coat, softening and straightening the hair, adding a shine and keeping it in good shape for longer!😍
✂️ Final hour taken to do an all over trim or “shape up”. Trimming and shaping in the tail, rump and thighs (or pants if you will), hocks and feet, front legs and belly to chest, then the ear area! Finished off with an ear cleaning, a final comb-through, spritz of cologne and a bandana. ✨A whole new dog✨
There was definitely a little bit of time added for love, play and sleeping (for Hank, not me👀) 😆 but this 3 hour appointment was very efficient!
So, if you’re ever questioning what may take so long for your dog to get pampered it’s likely your groomer is just putting in the effort to achieve a beautiful outcome in order to leave you with a much cleaner, more comfortable and easier-to-maintain dog!🙌🏼🤩
