Ripp out here just searching for clues on a case I asked him to solve (*volume up for some clue communication)
On a search site we have a variety of “clues” for example a lone ski or a pole. To make sure we do a diligent search of the entire area we need to make sure those clues, for a lack of better words, have no one is still attached to them. If there was we would be able to make a swift save, which is why we always need to check the clues.
For these training situations the clues will have human scent on them, just from a person recent handling them, so it makes sense that the search dog would smell them briefly but he will ultimately move on. They will move on because these are not where the greater scent accumulation is.
It’s important that as Ripp and I search we accurately mark and “flag” these clues based on our regional guidelines. This makes it so the sheriff department or any other resources can come in to assist us and know the outline of that was on the search site before they got there.
