It's the season where skunks are looking for a good place to hang out, and our dogs are thinking that it's their job to guard our yards from all risks, including the weird looking Stinky Kitty.
If your dog gets sprayed, this is the first wash you need to give them, as quickly as you can.
And to eliminate the skunk smell from your house while your doggo is drying from their impromptu de-stinkifying bath, put out small bowls of white vinegar.
This method will eliminate most, if not all of the smell, but if it isn't all gone after this, a serving bath in a skunk smell removal shampoo like "Skunk Off" will help get most of any residual smell out.
If your dog has naturally dry skin or allergies, you may need to follow up with a medicated shampoo (talk to your vet) or a good moisturizing shampoo meant for dogs.
Skunk spray is an oily liquid, which is why you use dish soap - it cuts through the oil and helps separate it from your dog's hair and skin.
Baking soda will help to absorb the skunk pill, and carry it away.
And, finally, hydrogen peroxide will cause the baking soda and soap mixture to foam lightly to help administer the shampoo, as well as two break down the oils.
