❤ BREED OF THE WEEK ❤
🐾 Meet the Collie, where its ancestors were primarily used by Celtic tribes as herding dogs. These early dogs were instrumental in managing the sheep herds that were crucial to the Celtic way of life. The modern Collie as we know it, emerged in the highlands of Scotland and the northern regions of England, where they were specifically bred for herding livestock, a task they performed with remarkable skill. One of the turning points in the history of the Collie came during the 19th century when Queen Victoria discovered the breed during her visits to Scotland. Her admiration for the Collie led to its increased popularity among the nobility and the general public. The Collie was recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club in 1885.
🐾 Collies are recognized for their beautiful coats which come in various colour combination, including sable and white, tri-colour, blue merle, and white. Collies are also known for their friendly and sociable nature. They love human interaction and get along well with people and other animals. They are gentle dogs that form strong bonds with their families, making them excellent companions for households with children. Despite their gentle demeanor, they also have a natural protective instinct, which makes them vigilant watchdogs.
🐾 Early socialization is vital for Collies to become well-rounded dogs. Since Collies rank among the most intelligent dog breeds, they are quick learners and can pick up commands rapidly, often understanding them after just a few repetitions. However, their intelligence also means they can become bored with repetitive tasks, so it’s essential to keep training sessions engaging and varied. Collies respond very well to positive reinforcement techniques.
🐾 Collies thrive on daily physical activity and should have at least 60 to 90 minutes of exercise each day. This can include walks, runs, and playtime in a secure, fenced area. Given their intelligence, Collies benefit from activities that challenge their minds, so providing them with interactive games such as puzzle toys, hide and seek, or obedience training exercises can provide the mental stimulation they need. They excel in canine sports like agility courses, obedience trials, flyball, and rally. In summary, Collies are a remarkable breed with a blend of beauty, intelligence, and affectionate nature. Their versatile abilities and charming personalities make them ideal family pets and loyal companions.

Box pivots are a fantastic exercise for building a dog’s body awareness, balance, and coordination.
📍By pivoting around the corners of the box, Jet learns to engage his core, move with precision, and follow Trish’s guidance closely.
📍This exercise also strengthens focus and impulse control, as he must pause, pivot, and stay mindful of his placement. Box pivots are a foundational skill that can improve performance in obedience, agility, and everyday movement.
Great job today, Jet, with Trish cheering you on every step of the way!

❤ BREED OF THE WEEK ❤
🐾 Meet the Maltese dog. This breed is one of the most ancient toy breeds, with its origins tracing back over 2,000 years. It is believed to have originated in the Mediterranean basin, particularly around the island of Malta. Throughout history, the Maltese has been a favourite among the elite. In ancient Greece and Rome, they were symbols of prestige and were often depicted in art and poetry. The Greeks dedicated tombs to their Maltese pets, and the Romans considered them a status symbol. The Maltese was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1888.
🐾 The Maltese is recognized by its long, silky, white coat that gives it an elegant and regal appearance. This coat requires regular grooming to maintain its beauty and prevent tangles. Maltese dogs are known for their loving and affectionate disposition and their spirited energy. They make excellent watchdogs as they are attentive and responsive and will not hold back from alerting their owners to any unfamiliar sounds or strangers approaching.
🐾 Maltese dogs are intelligent and quick learners. Their eagerness to please their owners makes training a rewarding experience, but they can be on the stubborn side, so consistency and positive training methods will bring better results. These dogs are social creatures and enjoy socializing with people and other animals.
🐾 Despite their small size, Maltese dogs are full of energy. A couple of short 15 – 20 min walks are usually sufficient to provide them with the necessary physical activity. Given their playful nature, they thrive on interactive play and agility training. While exercise is important, it's crucial not to overexert them, as their small size can lead to joint issues. As well, care needs to be taken when it comes to weather as they can be sensitive to extreme temperatures. With their charming appearance and delightful personality, the Maltese dog is truly a wonderful companion for anyone looking for a loyal and loving pet.

Sit Happens’ mission is to reduce the number of dogs re-homed or surrendered to rescue groups by providing affordable activities and education to dog owners. We accomplish this by taking the stress out of dog training by providing convenient and quality training that gets results quickly.
In-home training gets fast results!
By training in your home and neighborhood, we practice around in real life situations and distractions your dog encounters every day.
When training at a facility, dogs usually learn to listen in that environment only. Once you get home, the dog does not behave the same way as in class.
In a facility your trainer is not there in real life situations to help you troubleshoot and offer advice.
Training in your home let’s us work on behavioral training, such as over excitement, aggression or fearfulness, instead of just obedience training.
We do not rush training
Since each of our lessons builds on the last. Our flexible schedules allow 2-3 weeks between lessons, so you get enough practice in and are ready for the next lesson. Life gets busy and 1 week of practice is never enough for visible results.
This allows us to teach you more in 5 lessons than most other companies can in the various levels they offer.
One-on-One Training or Group Classes
Our one-on-one training style lets us customize your training program to suit your specific needs and accomplish the goals you aim for. Classes are structured and there are often not enough trainers or time to help you if you are having trouble with an exercise.
Our trainers work with you with a hands-on approach. We do not offer advice or give you a written training plan and expect you to know what to do. We create situations your dog misbehaves in and show you how to handle it.
Group classes are available in select cities and are a great option for clients looking for a more social training environment.
We are affordable
Group classes are available for clients on a budget or looking for a more social environment.
We offer competitive prices and affordable payment plans.
We improve the mental health of both you and your dog
By offering behavioral training we work on balancing your dogs unique needs and therefore improve their overall mental health.
We reduce stress in your life by creating a stronger and more respectful bond between you and your dog. No more embarrassing walks where your dog pulls, lunges or barks at your neighbors.
