Itâs Never âJust a Swimming Poolâ
One of the things I hear most often is, âIt must be nice getting to swim with dogs all day,â or âItâs a swimming pool for dogs.â
I always smile, because I know what people donât see.
They donât see the senior dog who struggles to stand before entering the water, only to move with comfort and confidence once the water supports their aching body.
They donât see the dog recovering from surgery, taking those first uncertain steps while their family watches, hoping this will be the beginning of healing.
They donât see the tears in an ownerâs eyes when they hand over the leash, trusting me with a member of their family they love more than words can describe.
They donât see the dogs who come for comfort during the final chapter of their lives when the goal is no longer to recover, but simply to give them one more day without pain, one more moment of peace, one more chance to move with dignity.
And they donât see the emotional weight that comes with loving every single dog that walks through my doors.
At Hydro Pups, every session is personal.
Whether I see your dog once or a hundred times, I become invested in them. I celebrate every milestone, every extra step, every tail wag, every bit of confidence gained in the water. I notice the little things: the nervous glance, the moment they finally relax, the first time they trust me enough to lean into my hands.
That trust is something I never take for granted.
Dogs donât understand hydrotherapy. They donât know Iâm trying to help. They simply decide whether they feel safe with me. Earning that trust is one of the greatest privileges of my work, and itâs something I work for every single session.
Behind every appointment is a story.
Some families have exhausted every option looking for relief. Some arrive carrying hope. Others arrive carrying heartbreak. My role is never just about guiding a dog through the waterâŚitâs about supporting both ends of the leash with compassion, patience, and genuine care.
People often see an hour long appointment.
I remember the dog long after theyâve gone home.
I wonder how theyâre feeling. I celebrate good veterinary reports. I grieve the losses. There are dogs Iâll never forget, no matter how many years pass. They leave paw prints on my heart just as much as I hope I leave a positive impact on theirs.
Hydrotherapy isnât just my career.
Itâs the responsibility of caring for someoneâs best friend.
Itâs understanding that every swim could mean less pain, greater confidence, more mobility, or simply a happier day.
Itâs showing up with my whole heart, every single time.
So no, it isnât âjust a swimming pool.â
Itâs a place where healing begins, where trust is built, where hope is restored, and where every dog is treated as if they were my own.
That is what Hydro Pups has always been about, and always will be.
