Good evening everyone! This is going to be a long one and I apologize, but please bear with us and read everything through thoroughly.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PLANS
First and foremost, I am not trying to cause panic or make anyone worried. I just want to be prepared in the event of an emergency/evacuation. Especially where I’m out at site and unable to access a phone for 12+ hours.
Ann and I have discussed what would happen in the case of an emergency evacuation. If it is limited to neighborhood evacuations, we will house the animals as best we can until people are able to leave work and arrange care. I am also trying to compile a list of trusted friends/clients that are able to assist with temporary housing or transportation, if need be.
In the event of a larger scale evacuation (all or most of Fort McMurray) , we are able to relocate animals to Ann’s lake lot in Wandering River. Again This is why having their profiles filled out as detailed as possible will help in the long run.
If you could please login to your PetPocketBook profile and fill out your pets profile as detailed as you can. This includes their basic info, behavioral & medical information. Please be sure to include feeding instructions, any medical issues/medication/allergies,etc, & as much about their behaviour as possible. In the event we do have to assist with evacuating client animals this will be a huge help. You can also add an emergency contact to their profile.
We also ask that you have a pack done up & readily available with the following items;
Leash & Collar with an up to date tag with dog/cat name & owner info
Medications &/or Supplements (and detailed instructions)
Comfort items for your pet (blanket, toys, etc.)
Food and bowls (if your animal is fed raw or a fresh food diet, please leave instructions where we would be able to locate their food, or consider dehydrated/freeze dried as an temporary alternative)
Copies of vaccine records (not mandatory but I would recommend)
Kennel(s) for cats/small dogs
If you have cats or small dogs that are prone to hiding, consider shutting bedroom doors/limiting hiding spaces during times where the risk for evacuation is higher (just so we can be quick in and out and not searching for hiding pets). Remember, in the event of a larger scale evacuation, we need to be as quick as possible to help out as many pets as we can. Please have these things close to your door, or someplace we can easily grab and go (instructions on location would be helpful).
If you want to leave any specific details or instructions for us, please feel free to send a message, or you can add it as a note to your profile that we will be able to see. (Or you can send us a message and we can add it to your profile).
THANK YOU everyone for bearing with us during difficult & potentially stressful times. We appreciate all of you!
