💡 TIP TUESDAY: What does your dog actually see? 🐕👁️

When you look at our Intermediate teams tackling a serpentine jump sequence in this video, you see a winding S-curve. But did you know that when the jumps are angled like this, it can look almost like a straight line to your dog?

Because their perspective is so different from ours, handling a serpentine requires a lot of hidden strategy. Some things we focused on in this class were:

- Giving them space: Allowing the dog a little distance so they can read the line safely rather than rushing them through.
- Timing the next cue: Handlers must cue the next direction right as the dog commits to the current jump—not after they land!
- Using clear body language: Managing our own motion, shoulders, and position to clearly indicate where the dog needs to turn next.

🔥 THE HANDLER TIP: The next time you walk a course, don’t just stand up high. Get down low at the start of a sequence and look at the obstacles from your dog’s height. Ask yourself: “Does this entry look obvious to my dog, or do I need to support them with clearer body language and earlier cues?” Agility is a game of precise communication, body awareness, and teamwork! Shout out to our intermediate teams for crushing these tough lines! 🚀👏

🎥 Talk about a night of major breakthroughs!

Night one of Novice Agility was an absolute blast. Learning so many brand-new things all at once can be super overwhelming, but both the owners and dogs did amazing. We are so proud of these teams! 🥳🐾

Check out the video to see the progression:
➡️ The Tunnel: We started with two people—one on either end—to make sure the dogs felt comfortable and supported. By the end of the night? They were going through the full, straight tunnel with total confidence! 🏆

➡️ The Table: We focused on table boundaries, specifically teaching the dogs not to fly off as soon as they landed. They practiced staying until getting their release command. ✨

We love breaking things down to the foundations and watching that instant confidence grow.

Want to build this kind of focus and connection with your dog? Our Basics class starts next week!

Building Confidence: A Q&A with our Trainer 🐾
Ever wonder what goes into 40 years of training and competing at the highest levels? We asked about the journey from a first Doberman to the Agility ring, and why the “Basics” are just as exciting as the “Masters.”

Q: What first inspired you to get into dog sports?
“It started with my first Doberman at 17. My breeder encouraged me to show in Conformation and later compete in Obedience. That love for the partnership only grew from there, leading me through Schutzhund, Agility, and Rally.”

Q: You often say ‘every dog needs a job.’ Why is that so important?
“I truly believe that mental and emotional fulfillment are every bit as vital as physical exercise. Giving a dog a ‘job’ promotes teamwork and builds a balanced, happy dog. Whether it’s learning the ‘Name Game’ in a basics class or navigating a complex course, that work is what strengthens the bond.”

Q: What makes your classes unique from others?
“The focus is always on the individual. There is never more than one handler-dog team on the floor or field at a time. This ensures that every team’s unique personality and goals are respected and addressed without the distraction of a crowded room.”

Q: After 40 years and many ‘High In Trial’ awards, what are you most proud of?
“I’m proud of every dog I have the opportunity to walk into the ring with. Every qualifying run is special, but what excites me most is seeing the joy and confidence a team gains when they see the positive impact this activity has on their partnership.”

Q: What’s your best piece of advice for someone curious about trying dog sports?
“Just go for it! Whether you’re starting with a brand-new puppy or an older dog, patience and a good plan are all you need. Every accomplishment, no matter how big or small, is a reason to celebrate.”

Join the Team this Spring!
Ready to start building that confidence? Registration is now open for our upcoming sessions:

: Eyes on the Prize! 🎯🐕

When training contact obstacles or dog walks, where you place the treat matters just as much as the treat itself!

The Tip: Instead of feeding from your hand, place the reward directly on your target at the end of the equipment.

Why it works:

• Better Focus: It teaches the dog to look to the end of the obstacle rather than constantly “checking in” with the handler’s hand.

• True Commitment: The dog learns to drive forward with confidence, maintaining a straight line and better speed.

• Contact Success: It encourages the dog to hit that contact zone looking for their reward, rather than jumping off early to follow you!

Build that independence and watch their speed soar! ⚡️

Want to level up your agility skills? We still have a few spots for Novice Agility on Wednesday evenings! DM us to grab one before they’re gone! 📩🏔️
