Kitty sitting duties today! I’m hanging out with my lovely trio, and the Kissing Bandit is back in action.

I noticed something huge: he’s started asking for permission (social solicitation) before diving in for the head-boops and kisses. As a behaviour consultant, this is the stuff that makes my heart melt! Building that trust and communication is what it’s all about. It goes both ways!

When we listen to what cats are telling us, they start to trust us even more. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a cat feel safe enough to communicate their needs instead of just reacting. Respecting their bubble pays off in the best kind of sandpaper kisses!

I finally finished! 🎓

It’s been a long time coming, but I’ve officially earned my Low Stress Handling® Silver Certification. I spent a lot of time studying “the other” four-legged friends (yes, a lot of dogs!) to get here, but the science of low-stress interaction is universal.

So grateful for the education provided by CattleDog Publishing and the legacy of Dr. Sophia Yin. Onward and upward for my feline clients!

Using a wand toy is a fantastic way to guide your cat to the right spot. For a post to be effective, it needs to be just like this one: tall enough for a full-body stretch and sturdy enough to handle their weight without wobbling.

🎄 Christmas Tree Safety Post Text

The sparkling Christmas tree can sometimes look like the ultimate, giant cat toy! While it’s entertaining to watch their curiosity, it's essential to keep Christmas safety for our feline friends a top priority.
Cats around the tree can lead to serious risks:

- Tree Stability: Secure your tree base to prevent a major, dangerous topple.
- Ornaments: Skip the tinsel (it can cause intestinal blockages!) and swap fragile glass for shatterproof decorations.
- Lights & Cords: Unplug lights when you're away and secure cords to prevent chewing and electrical shocks.
- Water: If you have a real tree, cover the tree stand water—it can contain harmful preservatives.

Taking preventative measures ensures that this beautiful centrepiece is a joy, not a hazard. This proactive behaviour is key to a peaceful holiday!

Holiday Routine

The holiday season brings so much joy—parties, dinners, and guests galore! While we love the festivities, remember that cats thrive on routine.

With all the changes the Christmas season introduces—new decorations, strong scents, unfamiliar sights, and perhaps visitors or time away at an event—our kitties can get stressed.

It's crucial to continue to stay on top of your usual routine as much as possible. Even if it's just 10-15 minutes, taking that precious time to engage in their regular activities with your cats—whether it’s a specific play session, a scheduled cuddle, or their usual feeding time—will make a huge difference in their behaviour and overall well-being.

Your consistency is the greatest gift you can give them this season! 🎁

Carrier Training: Making Travel a Breeze!

It's time to talk about a topic that causes anxiety for so many cat parents: the carrier!
As your certified Cat Behaviour Consultant, I know that shoving a terrified cat into a carrier moments before a vet trip is stressful for everyone. But it doesn't have to be that way!

Size matters here, too! A carrier should be big enough for your cat to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably. But more importantly, the carrier shouldn't be a scary "travel-only" box. It should be an everyday, open-door piece of furniture in your home.

Litter Box Size: A Royal Necessity!

Size matters, we're talking about your cat's porcelain throne! 🚽
A litter box that's too small is often the sneaky culprit behind uncomfortable or inappropriate peeing/pooping behaviour. Your fabulous feline deserves a box that allows them to:
1. Enter and exit gracefully.
2. Turn a full 180 degrees without bumping a wall.
3. Dig, cover, and feel secure!

If your cat is bigger than the box, it's time for an upgrade! The gold standard? A box at least 1.5 times the length of your cat (from nose to tail).
