This National Indigenous Peoples Day, we’re proud to highlight an extraordinary paw-tnership between our sponsored Dog Guide Pluto and his handler Stacy, who serves as the Indigenous Family Support Advocate at the Caribou Children’s and Youth Centre (). Check out their story here:
”Tansi, Boozhoo! My name is Stacy. I am Cree Ojibwe and serve as the Indigenous Family Support Advocate at the Caribou Children’s and Youth Centre. I am also Pluto’s, Secondary Handler.
I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to walk alongside children and youth who have been victims or witnesses of crime. In this work, I carry forward the strength of my ancestors and the values of our communities, centering healing, safety, and connection.
Our Facility Support Dog Guide, Pluto plays a vital role in this journey. In many Indigenous cultures, animals are our relatives and helpers—they carry medicine, teachings, and healing energy. Pluto brings a calming presence that will support children in feeling grounded, safe, and seen. His gentle spirit will also help create a space where healing can begin, naturally and holistically.
Together, Pluto and I serve children and families in Grande Prairie and the surrounding area, with humility, compassion, and a deep respect for the healing power of relationship, both human and animal.” - Stacy
