9 month rehab progression with Dante. He had sheared heels which resulted in a significant bony column imbalance on both fronts. It's been really rewarding to work on him and see a visible difference in his alignment each time!

Today's most interesting hoof. This little guy has been through a tough bout of thrush that has eaten away at almost the entirety of his frog. Although it looks gnarly - frog tissue is quite amazing and will regrow on turbo drive when given the chance!

We have all heard it:

"White hooves are softer/weaker than black hooves"

That is a big fat myth! 🔍

The colour of a horses hooves is determined by whether melanin is present in the hoof or not (the same pigmentation that determines coat colour). Melanin doesn't add any additional 'strength' to the hoof, so structurally white hooves and black hooves are exactly the same!

Strong hooves aren't determined by colour, they are made through diet, movement, environment, management, and genetics.

If your horse is struggling with hoof quality issues and the colour has been to blame - it's time to look at the bigger picture!

I spy with my little eye.... composite shoes in the jumper field! 👀

Made with a bottom tread pattern and flexible urethane that contours with each foot fall - composites provide great grip out on all surfaces!

They can also be studded just like any other shoe for increased performance 👟💨

Prix has made some great progress in the last couple months 🙌 She had a history of founder episodes, and since starting with her in April we have been working on correcting her angles and dished hoof wall. She's headed on the right track! 🤩

Her owner enjoys riding her out on the Thetis lake trails in her Duplo Classics. She's been in the same pair since April - and they still have plenty of trail blazing miles left in them!

Pre and post trim showing 6 weeks of wall and frog growth. A lot can happen in 6 weeks!
This is why short cycles are so important 🏋‍♀️ The frog will always try to make ground contact - and in this case with the excess length in the heels the frog became spongy and ratty in it's attempt to touch the ground. This turns the frog into a perfect host for bacteria and thrush to start colonizing.
