A huge thank you to for hosting Calgary Therapeutic Riding Association for our 50/50 fundraiser!

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share the work we do with the community while raising funds to support our riders and horses. Your generosity and support help make therapeutic riding programs possible for children and adults living with physical, developmental, emotional, and social challenges.

Thank you as well to everyone who stopped by, purchased tickets, shared kind words, and supported CTRA throughout the event. Community partnerships like this truly make a difference. 💙🐴

And of course thank you to everyone who volunteered their time selling tickets and speaking with folks, letting them know who ctra is ❤️

We’re excited to share that we have an upcoming casino fundraiser on June 8 & 9, and it’s an important part of our fundraising efforts this year.

We’ll need as many volunteers as possible to help fill a variety of positions, no experience necessary, just a willingness to jump in and support the program!

If you’re available for any shift, we would truly appreciate your help. Please reach out or keep an eye out for the sign-up details coming soon.

Thank you for everything you do to support our riders and horses - we couldn’t do it without you.

💛 The Heart of CTRA: Our Volunteers 💛

CTRA simply wouldn’t exist without the incredible humans who show up, rain or shine, boots on and hearts open. From grooming and leading, to holding space for participants and caring for our horses, our volunteers are the quiet magic behind every session.

They give their time, their compassion, and their steady presence — creating safety, connection, and trust for both horses and humans alike. This work is powerful, and it takes a village rooted in kindness, patience, and respect.

We are endlessly grateful for each and every volunteer who walks through the barn doors and chooses to be part of this community. You matter. You are seen. And you are deeply appreciated. 🤍🐴

Interested in becoming part of the CTRA volunteer family? We’d love to hear from you.

Therapeutic riding horses are carefully selected and thoughtfully supported to meet the needs of the riders they serve. Temperament, soundness, and consistency are essential, as these horses provide not only physical movement but emotional regulation, confidence, and connection for participants.

Regular observation and hands-on interaction help us assess each horse’s comfort, responsiveness, and wellbeing. Subtle cues — ear position, posture, curiosity, or hesitation — guide how we match horses to riders and determine appropriate workloads.

These horses are partners in therapy. Their calm presence and predictable movement create a safe environment where riders can build balance, coordination, communication skills, and trust. Supporting the horses who support our riders is a responsibility we take seriously.
