Yes it’s late. But my husband on an ice fishing adventure with our sons and his dad. And I noticed there were a couple water troughs that would be too low by morning. So I loaded the tank, went in to a simple supper with my daughter and amazing mother in law… waited for the tank to fill and won two games of crib against the two of them. (And they ganged up on me, too!)
Then my girl and I got dressed up in our best quilted plaid jackets, too-big Bog boots, fancy camo caps with built in lights and set out on a gorgeous night to get eyes on everyone and make sure that all waters and feeds were full.
This is homeschool.
This is teaching empathy.
And taking care of more than the person in the mirror.
It’s 15-2, 15-4 and her Nan helping find 15-6 and one for the Jack.
This is my girl reveling in her grit and confidence, laughing at the shadows.
This is full moon magic.
This is “I love you, mama”
This is what giving the “good old days” to the next generation looks like.
This is cold… physical…
This is not a “chore” I endlessly tell them.
This is real.
This is life.
