CARE Centre Animal control services for Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Kent, Harrison Hot Springs, and Mission. Our CARE Centre temporarily houses lost, stray and impounded dogs.

The Fraser Valley Regional District provides dog licensing, bylaw enforcement, and pound services to Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Kent, Harrison Hot Springs, and Mission. A limited aggressive dog service is provided to Electoral Areas D, E, and H. Our dedicated staff provides quality medical care, nutrition, socialization and exercise to the dogs in our care. Some of these dogs are waiting to be claimed by their owners, while others are being evaluated to determine their adoption needs.

Sai is a male Bully breed mix who's around 2 years old. Sai just has a zest for life and likes to celebrate every day!! Sai has previously lived with a female dog so may be suited to a home with another well matched dog; he shows a lot of interest in playing with other dogs, and is very puppy like in his mannerisms. οΏΌSai can be vocal when meeting new people but once he has their attention he's all wiggles!! He's working on "four on the floor" but sometimes his excitement gets the best of him! Sai knows a few basic commands and he LOVES food! We figured it was time to update Smudge's profile since he's been with us for almost a year!!!! Smudgey boy is absolutely thriving. After having a horrific start to his life, smudge has come leaps and bounds, and has shown true resilience in his ability to trust humans. Smudge goes on regular walks with our staff, and encounters many passersby, dogs, strollers, cars etc. He is doing so well and he's such a wonderful guy! He can still be wary of new people, particularly men, but that is understandable given his circumstances. He is also warming up to new people, faster and fast faster, as he has gained so many positive experiences in his time with us. We know he will be such a fantastic devoted companion for the right people. Smudge is a neutered male Mastiff, estimated to be around 2-3 years old. He may be suited to a home with the right compatible female dog. He is not reactive when he sees dogs and walks very well on leash. We don't think he has ever experienced on urban or busy neighborhood, so he may adopt most easily to a home in a quiet neighborhood. Smudge does not require a home with a yard, as he can have his physical exercise needs met by regular walks with his guardians. Smudgey boy is absolutely thriving. After having a horrific start to his life, smudge has come leaps and bounds, and has shown true resilience in his ability to trust humans. Our sweet guy, Jimmy is loving the sunshine these days! Jamie is a neutered male, Shepherd x Border Collie (we think)! Jimmy is everybody's best friend and he is the dog that gets to meet all of the new dogs, welcome them to the CARE Centre and ask if they want to be playmates! Jimmy loves to play with other dogs, and quickly makes friends. If you enjoy meeting up with friends for a dog walk or group activity, Jimmy is your guy! Jimmy has done well in previous foster trials, showing that he is trainable, and has some established good manners in the home. His energy level, to be expected for his breed, suits an active home where he can be provided lots of fun activities that exercise his brain and his body. While he would love a yard to call his own, it's not necessary if his guardians can provide him that physical and mental outlet. Jimmy has met some older kids and has done well. At first meetings, he can initially be slightly nervous, but warms up very quickly! Jimmy would like to meet every person and dog he sees when he is on a walk, so he is working on keeping his attention on his handler, since it's just not possible to greet each and every dog that we pass! πŸ’—JANIE πŸ’— this chunky love bug has nothing but joy to spread in the world ! Janie recently got spayed and she was so happy to visit the Vets office! πŸ˜‚ Janie loves people and she really loves dogs! She would be quite happy in a home with another canine playmate. Janie would also do well with older kids, honestly she'd probably like any kids, but with her enthusiasm she might knock down small kids! Janie shows no signs of anxiety and is pretty much happy all the time. She does require a special food due to some allergies, but other than that, we can't fault this sweet girl! Niro is patiently waiting for his forever home to come along... HOW IS HE STILL HERE?! We don't know. Niro is a gentle soul who loves people and longs to be touched. He's also social with dogs, and we think he could live with cats and probably dog-savvy kids. Someone is going to be very very lucky when they make him a member of their family. Niro is around 3-5 years old by our guess. He's a beautiful Doberman, and will be neutered next week. He will also receive a tattoo and microchip, like all of our dogs. Maren is feeling pretty β€œhoppy” today! She also wanted to let you know that the CARE Centre will be closed on Friday, April 18th, Sunday, April 20th, and Monday, April 21st for Easter. Staff will be around on Saturday, April 19th to assist you if you are looking to fill your long weekend with a visit! The centre will be back to the regular schedule on Tuesday, April 22nd at 8:30 am.

Calla keeps getting overlooked, which is hard to imagine, since she's so beautiful!!! She's a spayed female Lab mix, very intelligent and affectionate. Calla loves to play with toys, and enjoys cuddles with her people. Calla is a moderate energy gal. Update - Cher has an ADOPTION PENDING!! She'll be going into a foster trial once she has her spay appointment!

Beautiful Cher is looking for her forever home, and she's ready to make someone very happy! Cher is a mix of a few breeds, and 100% good girl. She is around 1-2 years old, and is quite a laid back girl. She learns very quickly and is incredibly willing to please - a delight in every way! Cher likes other dogs so may enjoy a puppy playmate! We don't know her history around cats, but she may be able to learn to live with them with proper slow introductions. Cher could likely live with older children as well. BONUS, we offer a trial period to ensure that the dog you select is a match for you and your lifestyle! All of our dogs, originally strays from the Fraser Valley areas, are spayed and neutered, and receive vaccine, deworming, flea treatment, microchip and tattoo prior to adoption. We are so happy that it's finally SPRING!!!! With the warmer weather comes all sorts of fun activities with our pups. We've been fortunate to have some super star volunteers who take some of our adoptable dogs on walks and adventures - and we love when they send us photos!! Here's some pics of adoptable dogs Kiwi, Brizmo, Rodney, Brad, Janie, and Carlie enjoying the sunshine. Did you know we also offer a trial period to make sure every adoption is the right fit? Niro is a new addition here and he's gaining quite a fan club already! Found as a stray, we don't know his story but he's a very sweet and sensitive boy! Niro is a Doberman and he's just waiting for his neuter and then he'll be ready for a home! So far Niro seems interested in other dogs although a little timid, so we will keep working to determine whether he'd prefer a home with or without another dog! He looks to be about two years old and is a loving and affectionate boy. Niro doesn't seem to know any tricks or have much training; it's possible he may have lived outdoors prior to coming into our care although he does appear to be somewhat potty trained!
