Canadian Fi****ms Safety Course (PAL)
I'll be running a Fi****ms safety course (PAL) Saturday 22 August 2026 in Stony Plain AB at Gold N’ Loan Outfitters, 201-5007 48 St. Stony Plain AB
To register for the course I require a name, email address and phone number. If the student is under 18 years old, I’ll require their age, this will hold your spot for 5 days. To confirm your spot, you can email $150.00/ person to [email protected] You will receive confirmation of your registration once payment has been made. Non-payment after 5 days will result in the spot being offered to others.
The course will start at 08:00 at Gold N’ Loan Outfitters in Stony Plain. You will be provided a student manual and all the required paperwork for your application. Please bring a pen! The day will consist of classroom and practical handling sessions. We will take a 1-hour break for lunch. If you would like extra handling time that will be available over the lunch hour. Once all the instruction, and a quick review is completed there will be a written (50 questions- multiple choice and T/F) and practical test to complete, depending on how many tests are required, we will normally complete everything by 6:30pm.
Please bring a government issued photo ID. If the student is a minor, have a parent or guardian bring a photo ID along. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Branding day is off to a beautiful start, now if Mother Nature could just hold off with the rain that would be great

BRANDING DAY IS POSTPONED TO 5 JULY

Due to the sheer volume of rain we’ve received over the last few days, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our branding event originally scheduled for June 28th.

The new date is Sunday July 5th.

I know this comes as a disappointment for many of you. We feel the same way.

The rain has caused some overland flooding in the area. Our arena is no longer safe due to the slippery conditions underfoot and this poses a risk to the animals and the humans who handle them.

Please join us at the ranch on our amended date for a full day of connecting with the people in our community.

We are so looking forward to hosting you.

Sky Hound Ranch Community Branding & Veteran/First Responder Gathering
Event Description:
On June 28th Sky Hound Ranch will be partnering with FNV ranch, both veteran owned ranches that provide support to veterans, current serving members, and first responders plus families. The day is being billed as a COME ONE, COME ALL gathering and will run concurrently with Sky Hound Ranch's annual branding day.
Our intent is to provide an opportunity for those who served in a uniform and those who have supported them. All are welcome to come out and experience western ranch culture, participate in the branding, learn about what SHR and FNV have to offer and to build on the veteran’s community to which both ranches are committed to building. The day will be as much a social event as it will be a working ranch day.
No ranch experience is necessary and attendees can be as involved as they like or simply spectate and enjoy the social aspect of the day. The day will start with experienced riders heading out to conduct a round up of all the cattle, bringing them into the pens. Each of the cows will undergo a health check, then we turn our attention to the calves. They will be roped and brought to the "wranglers" for branding before being returned to their moms. The final "work" to be done is to move all the cows to the north pasture and turn them out with the bull, so we can host a branding next year.
Throughout the day, everyone will have the opportunity to talk to ranch staff, socialize and spend the day enjoying what the ranch has to offer. Want to spend some extra time at the ranch? Free basic “roughing it” camping for the night will be available, this must be booked in advance. As well as a meal after the branding, there will be snacks available throughout the day.
If weather permits, a campfire gathering to share stories, songs and make new memories are welcomed so please bring your campfire talents that evening.
