WOWZA! YES! ✅😉✅

Great Canadian Dollar Store, Dalhousie has 'hunter orange vests' for your dogs! I love these! 🐶😃🐶

I wear these on Brunswick and Jersey almost all year round when we are walking in the woods.
They are especially important to make sure your dog is visible, and safe in the Fall as hunting seasons open!
They are lightweight and comfy for your dogs!
And, with reflective paw prints!

Go get one! ✅✅✅
Keep your dogs safe and enjoy those beautiful fall walks!

There's no short cut. 😬

Every bit as much as you expect your dog to learn, you have to be the coach, the teacher, the trainer. ✅

A glimpse into my thoughtful Sunday!
😳😬🤣😳😬🤣

A new word is popping up all over 'dog training'.

'Nuance', is by definition, the recognition of subtle variations in meaning, appearance, or feeling.

To me as I train & coach, 'nuances' in dog training means a few things:

1.) building a plan based on the individual dog, identifying, understanding and working with the differences in each dog

2.) adjusting, the perhaps 'cookie cutter' approach, we may start with to that individual dog so we turn, weave & pivot where we need to, in order to help both you & your dog learn

3.) paying close attention to the human 'mechanics', as we train recognizing that every little 'nuance' is highly recognizable by your dog, and that nuances in your mechanics can move your training along much faster.

A simple 'nuance' like being aware of where you place your food reinforcer, can impact what you dog is learning or not learning! 😬😬😬

Join us on your training journey where we'll build a plan that takes in yours & your dog's unique variable needs, and we'll coach you on those "Dog Training Nuances'! ✅✅

They don't come pre-programmed to be well-behaved companions! 😬😫😬

Those lovely dogs you see are a result of training along the way.
✅✅

The gap between how your dog is behaving today,
and how you want him to behave...
is where YOU need to put in the training! ✅😉✅

We can help you to define that training plan! ✅😉

Yep!

We don't use 'No', 'Leave It' or 'Stay' cues in our training.
😳😳😳😳

Ask us how we teach the concepts of 'permission' and 'release' cues instead! It works so much better and simply becomes a way of life! ✅🥳

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO DO “NO”!?
Picture this –
A mom walks past her son’s room and notices he’s drawing all over the walls with his crayons.

“No! No! No! “, she screams at him.

He immediately stops, looking startled, confused and scared. Satisfied that her son has stopped drawing, she continues with what she was doing.

A while later she walks past his room again. Now he is drawing all over the furniture. Mom is now furious and just doesn’t understand why he didn’t listen.

He didn’t “listen”, because he wasn’t given an alternative, acceptable behaviour. Maybe if he had been given an alternative – like lots of big pieces of paper or cardboard to draw on, this wouldn’t have happened and he would have understood what was acceptable and what wasn’t.

A similar comparison can be made to how we use this word with our dogs.

Show dogs an alternative, acceptable behaviour that can be rewarded to reinforce it, instead of just saying “No!”.

Showing dogs what to do instead of what not to do, builds trust, improves communication, helps dogs feel safe and encourages them to work things out for themselves.

Love this post!

So very important to simply 'meet your dog's needs'.
It helps with behavior, and develops your relationship!

Take the time to read through this!
It's RIGHT ON!

We can help!

Did you have a cup of coffee or tea this morning?
Did you call a friend to catch up?
Watch your favorite show on Netflix?
Take a painkiller when you had a headache?
Go to the gym?
Treat yourself after dinner?
You probably did multiple of these. You can take care of your own needs whenever you choose.
Your dog cannot.
Your dog cannot decide to meet their social needs. They cannot go outside and walk off their energy. They cannot grab a snack or a chew when they’re bored.
They cannot call a doctor when they don’t feel well. They cannot choose to go for a run, see their friends or go swim on their own.
Dogs are captive animals. They depend on us to meet EVERY need in their lives.
And what amazes me is how patient and hopeful they are about it.
They wait for us to take them on a walk. They wait for us to fill their bowl. They wait for us to give them play, comfort, and care.
Sometimes, we forget how extraordinary this relationship is. We forget the sheer weight and privilege of being someone’s entire world.
It's a huge, precious responsibility.
Their lives are so short. And in that short time, they rely on us for everything. And yet they do it SO joyfully, meeting us each day with hope, love, and excitement.
In return, they give us friendship, fun and endless happiness.
Take a moment to just appreciate how extraordinary that is.
So here’s my challenge to you: stop scrolling.
Close Facebook. Put your phone down.
And just take your dog for another walk (today, and every other single day.)
Don’t leave them crated for hours on end. Give them chances to run, sniff, chew, play, and just be your friend.
Because remember: they cannot do ANY of this on their own. Not one single thing. Every need they have depends on you.
Their whole precious life is in your hands.
It's your amazing privilege to make it the very best one.
With the most walks, games, adventures, playtimes and memories.
Don’t ever waste that chance to make it the most amazing life.

Brunswick Update! ✅❤️

We are up to Day #22 since surgery!
(56 days of recovery in the plan before he can even come off a leash! So, 34 more days ahead of us! 😫😳😬)

Started a 20 min leash walk today! He's walking pretty good, with just a slight limp and 'turn', that should improve as his muscles come back!
3X a day - heat therapy, walk, physio, and cold therapy!

We add 'sit-to-stand', 'ladder' walks/cavalettis, (hard to keep him from running or jumping through those, though! 🤣🤣), horizontal hill walks, and paw targeting to move his back end now. All to help with his muscle tone!

We've left him alone for an hour here and there, and he is coping just lovely with the restricted movement around the house!
And, using the very lovely dog beds instead of the couches and comfy chairs! 🤣🤣 'Being Alone' and 'Being Still' training throughout his life, for the win!

So, that gives me a little more flexibility with you guys & appointments! Yay! ✅

Plus - his gorgeous fur is growing back a little on his leg and on his back where they did the epidural! ❤️

And, his sidekick is always close by for moral support! Jersey goes along and does the walk, the 'auto sit' and the stand right along with him! He has been a very patient pup, while we focus so much on Brunswick! ❤️✅✅❤️
