Did you know we also do cat grooming? This is a difficult service to find in Lethbridge, especially finding one that considers the mental health of the cat. We take a fear-free approach to everything, and know how to handle cats that may be scared, painful, or traumatized from previous aggressive grooms. If slow and compassionate handling and/or gabapentin isn’t enough, we highly recommend sedation as a way for your cat to be “asleep” for most of the event.
During sedated grooms we treat them like any patient given light anesthetic. This means that they: are on flow-by oxygen, vitals are constantly monitored by a RVT (including temperature, blood oxygen levels, and heart and respiratory rate), receive an anti-nausea injection before wake up, and are kept warm and safe during recovery. We handle them gently and never put them in positions that would put stress on their joints.
We only recommend grooms when a cat is unable to clean itself or if their coat has become tangled beyond brushing. Cats are very clean creatures, and keeping their fur and skin healthy helps their overall health.
