Meet Viktor! This little bean was feeling pretty rotten 😞
Following several emergency visits, he came to us for follow up of continued vomiting and inappetence. After repeating X-rays and talking to specialists, our Vets determined something in there just didn’t look quite right!

We took Viktor swiftly into surgery and Dr Meaghan was able to locate the problem: deep in his small intestine was a large, firm lump which was blocking any movement.

To everyone’s surprise Viktor had ingested a whole intact small bird! 🐦 😳.
After 2 weeks of being stuck inside the GI tract, things weren’t pretty!

Once surgery was competed he was onto recovery ❤️‍🩹

After something so invasive, recovery can be rough but Viktor pushed through and touched all of our hearts with his strength and positive puppy attitude!

His family reports he is doing amazing, eating well and back to his normal puppy self!

When wildfire smoke fills the air, it’s not just humans who feel the effects — our pets are at risk too. Poor air quality can cause eye irritation, coughing, difficulty breathing, and fatigue, especially for pets with respiratory conditions or short-muzzled breeds.

🚨 How to Keep Pets Safe 🚨

🏡 Keep them indoors as much as possible, with windows and doors closed.
💨 Use air purifiers to reduce smoke particles inside your home.
🐕 Limit outdoor time — only short bathroom breaks when air quality is poor.
💦 Hydration is key — smoke exposure can cause dehydration, so ensure fresh water is always available.
🩺 Watch for symptoms like excessive coughing, wheezing, or lethargy — seek veterinary care if needed.

Wildfire seasons are becoming more frequent, but we can take steps to protect our pets. Stay informed, monitor air quality, and prioritize their health during smoky conditions.

🚨 Things are heating up out there Calgary! ☀️

A reminder to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and never leave your pets (or kids…. or grandma…) in a parked car — even for a minute. On a warm day, the temperature inside a vehicle can skyrocket in seconds, putting our friends at serious risk of heatstroke or worse.

If you love them, don’t leave them. ♥️ 🐾

Spike had a little sore on her arm from digging too excitedly. Reptiles like Spike will shed injured scales off as new healthy scales grow underneath!

Otherwise Spike looked like a very happy and healthy lizard 🦎☀️🐍
