Arrr Matey 🏴‍☠️ SWIPE 👉

Honestly though… why does using a refractometer make us all look like pirate captains searching the horizon for lost treasure? 😂

One tiny drop of urine and suddenly we’re:
Arrr… hydration be adequate, matey.

What’s another totally normal clinic task that looks absolutely ridiculous to outsiders? 👇

Behind every surgery is a RVT and their skills

While this sweet pup was under anesthesia for a mass removal surgery, Julia, one of our RVTs, was carefully monitoring every heartbeat, breath, and vital sign to keep them safe throughout the procedure. But that wasn’t all. She also noticed some ear concerns and took the opportunity to give the ears a thorough inspection and clean while the patient was already asleep and comfortable.

From anesthesia monitoring, patient care, and pain management to ear care, surgical support, and recovery. Veterinary technicians wear a LOT of hats during procedures like this. It’s one of the many reasons RVTs are such an important part of your pet’s care team.

Drop a ❤️ for Julia and all the hardworking RVTs out there.

The sweetest recovery moment 💜

Sometimes the most important part of surgery happens after the procedure is over.

As this little pup woke up from surgery, she was still sleepy, and unsure of where she was. Recovery can feel scary for our patients, especially when they’re waking up in unfamiliar surroundings.

So Dr. Honda took a quiet moment out of her busy day to kneel beside her, offer gentle hugs, and speak softly until this sweet girl felt safe again. It’s a level of compassion Dr. Honda gives every patient she cares for, and one of the many reasons she is so loved by both her team and her clients.

Moments like this remind us that veterinary medicine is so much more than medicine and surgery. It’s compassion. It’s comfort. It’s being there for our patients when they need reassurance the most.

And honestly… we think this little face says it all. 🥹

More Than Just A Dental Cleaning 🦷

Behind every skilled veterinary technician is hours of real hands on learning.

Recently one of our ACA/techs in training had the opportunity to assist in a dental procedure under the guidance of our very experienced veterinary technician Michelle. From learning instrument handling, to patient monitoring, anatomy, and dental techniques. This is how confidence and skill are built in veterinary medicine.

There really is no better feeling than passing down knowledge and watching new techs grow into amazing veterinary professionals. Every experienced technician started somewhere, and mentorship like this helps shape the future of patient care.

A little behind the scenes reminder that veterinary training is not just textbooks. It is real patients, real learning, and real teamwork every single day. 💪

Drop a 👏 for the people helping train the next generation.

X-Ray Case of the Day 🩻 look closely 👀

Do you see what we see?

Tahani, our RVT Rebecca’s cat, first started showing a subtle limp around 6 months old. After a short course of pain management she seemed better… until a few months later when the limping returned much more severely.

X-rays revealed a partially luxated hip along with bilateral luxating patellas, meaning both kneecaps and one hip was unstable and slipping out of place. A very uncommon finding in such a young cat. Even more interesting? There was no trauma or injury involved. Tahani was simply born this way.

Rebecca is now exploring treatment options including pain management for flare ups, along with consulting an orthopedic surgeon about a possible FHO (femoral head ostectomy) surgery.

A reminder that even subtle limping can sometimes point to something much bigger beneath the surface.

‼️Guess what we found 👀 SWIPE

Yep! A little flea.

This tiny pest was found on one of our feline friends during an appointment… and yes, it was an “indoor” cat.

By “indoor”… we mean they sometimes sneak outside for a little backyard adventure. 🌿

It only takes one trip outdoors for cats and dogs to pick up fleas or ticks right in your own yard. These tiny pests are more common than many pet owners realize, especially during the warmer months.

That’s why prevention is so important. It’s always easier (and safer) to prevent fleas (and ticks) than it is to treat an infestation (or diseases) later on.

If your pet steps even one little toe bean outside, it’s time to start flea & tick prevention.

Drop a 🐶 or 🐱 below if your pet has already had a flea or tick found on them!

🚧 CONSTRUCTION AHEAD 🚧

Just a heads up Southsiders! Burloak Drive will be fully closed between Harvester/Wyecroft Roads and Prince William Drive/Superior Court from May 22 to June 1 due to construction related to the Lakeshore West rail corridor project.

If you’re visiting us during this time, please plan a little extra travel time and follow the posted detour routes. Access to the clinic area will still be available using the surrounding roads and detours.

We know road closures are never fun, but we truly appreciate your patience while this important work is completed. 💚

If you have an upcoming appointment and are unsure about the best route, feel free to give us a call!

Long Weekend Mode: Activated ☀️

Penny is fully embracing cottage mode this long weekend. 🌊☀️🐾

Lake breeze. Quiet waves. A little exploring along the shoreline. Honestly? We think she may have life figured out better than the rest of us.

Just a reminder that the clinic is closed today for the holiday, but we will reopen tomorrow from 8am–8pm.

We hope you and your pets are enjoying a relaxing long weekend too 💛

Pet Safety Checklist ✅

Long weekend plans? Your pet’s safety plan matters too. ☀️🐾

With warmer weather, fireworks, BBQs, gardening, road trips, and more outdoor time, there are a few extra things to keep in mind to help your pet stay safe and comfortable.

Before the weekend fun begins, take a few minutes to check:

✅ ID tags and microchip information
✅ Fresh water and shade
✅ Pet-safe plants and garden products
✅ Firework prep and safe indoor spaces
✅ Flea and tick prevention
✅ Safe travel plans
✅ Avoid corn on the cob and other bbq hazards
✅ No leash free walks (especially at night to avoid coyotes).

A little preparation can go a long way in helping prevent stress, injuries, or unexpected vet visits.

What’s your pet’s biggest long weekend challenge? Drop an emoji below 🎆🍖🚙☀️
