CANINE PARVOVIRUS (PARVO)
A SERIOUS & HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS DISEASE IN DOGS

WHAT IS PARVOVIRUS?
Canine parvovirus is a life‑threatening viral infection that attacks the intestines and immune system
of dogs. It spreads rapidly and can survive in the environment for months.
WHO IS MOST AT RISK?
Puppies (6 weeks – 6 months)
Unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated dogs
Dogs exposed to contaminated areas (parks, footpaths, kennels)
COMMON SIGNS
Severe vomiting
Profuse, often bloody diarrhoea
Lethargy and weakness
Loss of appetite
Fever or low body temperature
Rapid dehydration
Parvo can become fatal within 24–48 hours without treatment.
HOW DOES PARVO SPREAD?
Contact with infected dogs
Contact with contaminated faeces, soil, shoes, clothing, or surfaces
The virus is extremely hardy and resistant to many disinfectants
PREVENTION IS KEY
Ensure timely vaccination of puppies and adult dogs
Avoid public areas until puppies are fully vaccinated
Practice good hygiene (hand washing, footwear cleaning)
Isolate sick dogs immediately
Vaccination greatly reduces risk, but no vaccine provides 100% protection.

IF YOU SUSPECT PARVO
Seek veterinary care immediately
Do not wait — early treatment saves lives
Call ahead before bringing your dog to any clinic
PROTECT YOUR DOG. PROTECT YOUR COMMUNITY.
Parvovirus is preventable — awareness and prompt action save lives.

This is Paddy. 😻
He came into the clinic as a stray earlier in the year. We all fell in love with him but couldn’t find him a forever home. He spent about 3 months with us as a “clinic cat” until one day one of our wonderful clients decided to take him in.

Today he came back all grown up for his castration surgery. We can all confirm that we are still very much in love with him. 💕

Castrating pets is a compassionate and effective way to reduce the number of stray animals in our community. By preventing accidental litters, we help lower overcrowding in shelters and create a safer, healthier environment for all animals. ✅
