Based in Port Kembla, near Wollongong, Water Walkies boasts the region’s first designated dog hydrotherapy pool in a purpose-built facility where we offer treatments for injury rehabilitation, pain management, and weight loss. Our certified canine hydrotherapists can develop a customised treatment plan that is appropriate for your dog’s specific condition and stage of recovery. We also welcome cli

ents to attend for fun and general fitness. Swimming is great for general strength, cardiovascular conditioning and weight management.

As members of a multi-modality team, we will liaise closely with clients Vets and other specialists. Veterinary Consent is required for all hydrotherapy treatments, even for a fun swim. This ensures your hydrotherapist has a complete picture of your companion’s condition, behaviour, clinical history and any contraindications for hydrotherapy. The centre also features an underwater treadmill with 360-degree cameras for assessing gait and prescribing individualised therapy programs. Moreover, we have DIY dog wash facilities where you can give your four-legged best friend a good wash after a hydrotherapy session.

→ What is Hydrotherapy? Hydrotherapy is used to relieve pain and promote physical well-being, it is a controlled exercise using the therapeutic properties of water which is maintained at the optimum temperature of 28-30⁰c. The thermal effect promotes the circulation of blood flow which relaxes tight muscles and eases pain and inflammation. Hydrotherapy can be used for rehabilitation for both pre and post-surgery, weight management, fitness, conditioning, water confidence or just outright fun! Exercising in water helps dogs regain strength, reduces swelling and stiffness, improves range of motion, and strengthens and improves muscle tone. A five minute swim is equal to a 5 km run on land due to the resistance of the water. The heated water and the buoyancy can help achieve exercises in water that would not be possible on land

Our underwater treadmill provides a low impact way for dogs to build strength, improve mobility and maintain fitness while reducing stress on their joints.

The water supports the body while providing resistance, making it an excellent option for rehabilitation, arthritis management and general conditioning. 🐾

Everything we do is built around:

Long-term strength
Joint protection
Sustainable movement

Because longevity matters more than quick wins.

That’s where the real difference is made.

Join Maddy and Bonnie for a hydrotherapy session, featuring Bonnie’s expert-level swimming skills 🏊‍♀️

Bonnie is a 15-year-old Border Collie who visits us weekly for hydrotherapy and laser therapy to help manage her arthritis and keep her moving comfortably.

As our dogs get older, staying active becomes more important than ever. Hydrotherapy can help support mobility, maintain muscle strength and improve overall comfort and quality of life.

We think Bonnie makes it look pretty easy, although she’d probably tell you she’s just here for the snacks at the end 🐾

With all this rain, a lot of dogs are missing their usual walks, zoomies, and outdoor time this week.
If your dog is getting bored, restless, stiff, or just needs an outlet — we’re still warm and running as normal.
Pool sessions and treadmill work are a great way to keep them moving safely, burn some energy, and break up those long rainy days indoors.
Honestly… we’d probably choose the heated pool over this weather too.

When dogs return after an injury, it’s rarely because rehabilitation failed.

More often, the body simply lost the support it once had.

Consistent movement helps maintain strength, coordination, and stability.

That’s how progress lasts.

Save this as a reminder that movement support doesn’t stop when rehab ends.

Dogs are incredibly good at masking discomfort.

What most owners see as “just slowing down” is often compensation.

By the time it’s obvious, it’s been there for a while.

Knowing what to look for changes everything.

Save this — it’s one of the biggest mindset shifts for dog owners.

Bodies respond best to regular, supported movement — not long gaps followed by bursts of activity.

Consistency helps joints stay comfortable and movement patterns stay confident.
