Company Overview
The Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) is an initiative of Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) dedicated to finding homes for greyhounds after racing. Description
The GAP page is a place for greyhound adopters, friends of GAP, and fans of greyhounds as pets. Greyhounds make fantastic pets – they are quiet, lazy, and gentle dogs that thrive in the family home environment. Greyho

unds that have passed through the program have been awarded a special green GAP collar and do not have to be muzzled in public. Every greyhound that enters the program is thoroughly temperament tested, desexed, wormed, microchipped, and vaccinated. They then spend time with a volunteer foster carer to help them adjust from life in a kennel, to life in a pet home. Our foster carers aim to familiarise the greyhounds with a variety of situations they may not have experienced in the past, like walking upstairs or on slippery floors. 💐 To the mums, nans, step-mums, dog mums, foster mums, and every caring heart in between... Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at the Greyhound Adoption Program. 💚

Today we’re celebrating the people who make a house feel like home… especially the ones who don’t mind sharing the couch with 30kg of long legs and expert-level snoozing. 🐾

Greyhounds have a special way of showing love, the gentle lean, the happy tail wag when you walk through the door, the quiet companionship on life’s ordinary days. And for so many of our adopters, that love grows into something truly beautiful.

Whether you’re spending today with family, friends, or your four-legged shadow close by, we hope it’s filled with cuddles, cups of tea, and maybe a sneaky Mother’s Day treat or two. 🌸

Drop a photo of your GAP greyhound and their favourite human in the comments, we’d love to celebrate with you! 📸🐶

Our final, and favourite PUPDATE for today - MARSHALL!

Remember this very special boy we featured a few days ago who has been badly let down by the humans in his life? Today he headed off to what we hope is his final, forever home with Ian and Julia. To celebrate his gotcha day they stopped on the way home to get him some chicken nuggets. How wonderful is that?

Marshall and nine other greyhounds headed off to their new homes today. Our hearts are full 💕.

💌 Love Note: Kerri & Wilma

Three weeks.

That’s all it took for Wilma to completely steal Kerri’s heart.

“We’ve only had Wilma with us for 3 weeks but already couldn’t imagine life without her as part of our family.”

From the moment she arrived, Wilma settled in beautifully, bringing with her the perfect mix of sweetness, affection… and just a little bit of cheekiness.

“She’s gentle, affectionate and oh so very cheeky.”

Which, honestly, sounds exactly like the recipe for a perfect greyhound.

In just a few short weeks, Wilma has already become part of the everyday moments that make a house feel like home — following her people around, soaking up cuddles, and no doubt quietly claiming the comfiest spots in the house along the way.

And while it may still be early days, one thing is already crystal clear:

“Bringing her home was the best decision we ever made!”

We absolutely love hearing stories like Wilma’s because sometimes greyhounds have a funny way of making themselves feel like family almost instantly. One minute they’re settling in… and the next, you can’t remember what life looked like before them.

Welcome home, beautiful Wilma 💚🐾

💚 For 30 years, we’ve had the joy of watching greyhounds become part of your lives…

Through your photos and videos, we’ve seen it all...
the zoomies, the couch takeovers, the upside-down naps, the quiet moments, and the wonderfully odd little habits that make each one so special.

And after all this time, there’s one thing we know for sure…
these beautiful pets are anything but grey ✨

So, to celebrate 30 years of the Greyhound Adoption Program, we’re putting it to you 👇

If you could rename the greyhound… what would you call it, and why?

Happy Dinosaur Day (yes, it’s a real thing!) and Zeus has officially gone full Jurassic bark. 🦖🐾

Rumour has it Zeus was hoping to audition for the next Jurassic Park movie… but this was one of his outtakes. 🎬🦕

Honestly though, how seriously cute is he in his dinosaur outfit?! 💚

With his mighty tail, tiny “rawr,” and expert-level lounging skills, we’re pretty sure he would’ve ruled the dinosaur era… at least from the comfort of the couch. 😴🦖

Today we’re celebrating all the wonderfully goofy things that make greyhounds so lovable — from their long “dino” necks to their zoomie-powered legs and their talent for stealing hearts in record time.

Drop a 🦖 in the comments if Zeus’ dinosaur look has made your day!

PUPDATE: thanks for all the calls and love for Marshall! You guys are the best 💚. He has a home booked to meet him on Saturday, stay tuned for an update then 🤞.

We have a very sad tale for you today.

This is Marshall. He has been horribly let down by many of the humans in his life. His first pet owner (not a racing owner or GAP adoptee) starved him. When Marshall entered our care via a pound, he was severely emaciated and it took many months for us to get him well enough for adoption. Then his second owner abandoned him at another pound instead of returning him to us when they could no longer care for him.

This poor, poor dog.

But still, look at the love and trust in his eyes. He hasn’t given up on people, and we won’t give up on him.

His next home must be his forever home. He must be treated with all the love and kindness he deserves. He must never know hunger or loneliness again 😢.

Can you promise him that? If so please give us a call on 57990166 to meet him. He’s at our Tullamarine kennels (Melbourne, Australia) and we want so badly to find him the person who will reward his faith in humans.
