These guys are a classic example of why budgies DON'T need to be handraised to be tame!!

Both are youngsters, under 12 weeks old, and they haven't been in the aviary for long. They were both parent-raised, and had no more than my usual baby handling (I handle them daily in the nest, from the day they're born). Since going into the aviary they have had no dedicated handling.

Princess (the one trying to devour my hand whole) decided a couple weeks ago that I was hers now. Today she is showing the other little fella that I am acceptable. He is coming around quite quickly! (Not when the video is rolling though lol)

While Princess is staying here to be part of my future breeding program, the other little guy is looking for a new place to call home. He has the potential to be an amazing pet, or an awesome breeding bird! (He is a double-factor whitecap, plus a couple of nice splits, so he's got a nice little genetic background 😊) you know where to find me if you just love him and HAVE to have him! 😉 0428 897 207

What about this little cutie though?!?! He's a sweetheart, and very opinionated lol.

He's a bit rough currently, he had a bit of a run in with illness during handraising, which he has completely recovered from, but it's pushed him into a bit of a stress moult, so he's missing some flights and his tail too.

It's important to make the distinction between a stress moult and French moult... a stress moult can be triggered by illness, a dramatic change in environment or diet, or even a dramatic change in weather/temperature. Young birds fully recover from these, same as a normal moult, and go on to be happy and healthy.

French moult on the other hand, is much more severe, and is a result of the Polyoma virus. Babies with French moult will drop ALL their flights and tail feathers, not just some. Sometimes they recover fully, but a lot of the time the feather follicles are severely damaged and cannot regrow healthy feathers... these birds are often called "runners" and spend their life with no wings. Severely affected FM victims often become lifelong carriers of the Polyoma virus, and as such, should never be allowed to breed, as they risk passing it on to their own offspring and continuing the disease cycle.

Luckily, this little fella is a Stressy, not a Frenchy!! He is already regrowing the lost feathers (looks like one or two on each wing, and his main tail feathers) and should he able to fly properly very soon!!

He is ready to find his new family, so if you think that might be you, you know where to reach me... 0428 897 207 😁

For the breeders out there... check out these beauties!!!

Two double-factor whitecap boys, one opaline and one normal - both split for Texas clearbody and dilute.

And their stunning sister, a single-factor whitecap violet Texas clearbody - split for dilute.

Obviously I'm keeping the best of the bunch... but these three are going to be a huge asset to someone else's breeding program! Let me know if that might be you 😉

These two are siblings... the last of last season's quakers. A turquoise and a standard blue.

Conure spam!!! There are six different birds here... last season's youngsters, they were handraised by Oxana but haven't been handled for awhile. There's a violet cinnamon, a double-factor violet green yellowsided, three jade high-red pineapples, and a high-red pineapple. Such beauties 🥰🥰🥰

How stinkin cute are purple crown lorikeets though?? Oxana handraised these ones, but it's been a while since they were handled. Very curious, acrobatic little creatures 😊 if you are dying to know more about purple crowns, you should contact Oxana, 0437 914 071... she can tell you all about them!

Oh no... what have I done?!?!?

Handraising is in full swing at Naomi's, with a LARGE crop of little budgies being raised currently. Never a dull moment!!! We have 18 babies in the brooder and baby cage at the moment!!! That's a lot of little mouths to feed!!

(Good thing I love my job haha)
