INCOMING:
Over the past few weeks, CatRescue901 has been undertaking a large rescue effort involving a local colony of cats living in extremely difficult circumstances.
Like many rescues, we are already overflowing with cats in care, stretched foster networks and limited resources. It would be easy to say we’re full and walk away. But sometimes the situation is simply too urgent to ignore.
What has made this rescue possible is that the people who identified the problem didn’t simply make a phone call and leave. They became part of the solution.
Alongside CR901, fellow rescues, private rescuers, transport volunteers, foster carers and dedicated people on the ground have all worked together to help these cats. From feeding and monitoring, to trapping, transport, foster care and socialisation, this has truly been a community effort.
Many of these cats have had little positive human interaction and need time, patience and understanding before they’re ready to find forever homes. Socialising frightened cats is one of the most important—and often overlooked—parts of rescue.
A huge thank you to Moses Kittie Rescue, MKC, the private rescuers involved, and everyone who has contributed their time, resources and homes to help these cats.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway from this rescue is just how quickly a situation can spiral. This colony began with just six undesexed cats. Left to roam and reproduce, those numbers grew rapidly, creating a welfare crisis for the cats and the people trying to help them.
If there’s one thing we’d love people to take away from this story, it’s the importance of desexing your cats. Prevention is always kinder than rescue.
