While our area hasn’t been affected by the bird flu outbreak yet it’s still a good idea to follow these suggestions from Agriculture Victoria to keep your birds safe.

Good biosecurity remains the best defence against H5 bird flu for backyard chickens.

There are simple steps you can take to help protect your backyard birds from H5 bird flu:

✅ Use netting, fencing, roofing or other barriers where possible to reduce contact with wild birds or wild bird droppings
✅Keep feed and water away from wild birds
✅ Clean poultry yards and coops regularly
✅ Wash your hands before and after handling birds
✅ Avoid sharing equipment with other poultry owners
✅ Monitor your birds for signs of illness and report any suspect cases immediately

These steps can help keep your birds healthy and reduce the risk of spreading disease.

Find out more at agriculture.vic.gov.au/birdflu and report suspected cases by calling 1800 675 888.

It hasn’t been all cats and dogs in clinic this week.
Vet Tech student Ellie was able to get an up close encounter with a young female wombat before she was dropped off to a wildlife carer.

The nurses at Seymour Veterinary Surgery would like to wish all the vets out there a happy World Veterinary Day. Especially our team; Drs Andrew, Kym, Tessa, Malcolm and Louise.
You bring our pets into the world, patch them up and help them pass over the rainbow bridge with skill and compassion.

Special thanks to our own Dr Andrew. No matter how challenging the day you make it interesting and educational. We love being a part of your team.

We will be closed tomorrow for the ANZAC Day public holiday.
We pay respect to those who have served our country and commemorate those who have fallen in service.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, not the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning.
We will remember them.

Dr Andrew has decided that Spud is a good choice as our admin officer. She works for treats and being deaf is very quiet in the office (which makes a pleasant change 🤣) and he doesn’t get in trouble with her being chained to the desk 🤣🤣
