Oops. Been a while since an Elliott update.
He's been progressing nicely and we're starting to feel like a team. It has always taken me 12 months to really 'click' with my horses so we did have a reasonably quiet first half of the year compeition wise with 2 x grade 4 HT over Autumn and a dressage weekend. But we've been doing LOTS of training and he's coming along super.
We did the first two SEED HT. Grade 4 at #1 for 4th in HT and 1st Supercross.
Finally stepped up to grade 3/80cm at SEED #2. He went super XC but had 2 unfortunate refusals at the trakhner which we have lacked training over. He did jump it no worries on attempt 3!
Not much on over August due to calving on the dairy farm but the training will keeping ticking along.

Been a busy few weeks.
Mav & Oscar 🍒✂️ plus branding & microchipping. Joey is being kept entire at this stage.
Gradual weaning has started with both spending a few hours a day happily away from the mares and getting hard feed and doing some work. We're big on everything dragging a rope. It helps them teach themselves pressure & release, gets their legs used to touching and to dragging things in case they get tangled or lose a rider one day!
Aim is to get them weaned when the grass kicks off so they get plenty to eat and their piggy mummies can go on spring diet! (And maybe come back into work)

Youngsters Update.
Lewis is wintering in the diet paddock and looking trim!
Angus is a gangly duckling turning into a Swan.
Joey is weaned and running with the bog boys (no recent photos!)
Hughie (now Mav, suited him better) and Oscar have been learning how to be grown up ponies. Both being very good boys.
Pattie & Orange are fat & loving the mum life.

Update on the boys club 🤣

Shadyoak Brampton (Joey)
Shadyoak McLaren (Oscar)
Shadyoak Maverick (Hughie)

All growing like mushrooms.

Joey is a monster! And insists you pat him. NOW!
Oscar still has a helicopter parent. He will be available for purchase upon weaning.
Hughies favourite thing to do is gallop around neighing just for the fun of it.

Shadyoak Maverick & Shadyoak McLaren. One's a bruiser and One's a dainty critter, just like their dams.

Shadyoak Stirling aka Lewis has had a busy summer.
He arrived at my place on Boxing day and today we went on his first outing to ARC grounds and had ride number 4!!! and our first canter!!!

Can't fault the temperament on this one. He did do a short show prep in a professional stable last year so he knew about rollers and lunging but he's been the cruisiest dude to work with. Thanks to Stewie Robinson for giving him such a solid foundation for me to work with.
I hadn't broken one in for 12ish years so he's put up with me muddling my way along 😆

Probably get another week or two then get turned out until he turns 4.

He was gelded late last year, not a decision we made lightly but he was a super temperamented c**t but we didnt want to campaign a c**t. We did however collect some semen for our own use. So we may one day see some of his babies too.

He was "Elite" assessed by ACE as a foal so once he is jumping in a year or two we'll get him assessed again and upgraded.

Today's ride...

On Sunday we said "See You" to Floyd who has found a new home with a young eventer.

He was just going to be toooooo big for me. He turned 3 on Saturday. He'd be 15.2 and a touch bum high still. And he was wide. And deep. And just a unit of a horse for a 3/4 NF pony!
Plus we now have 6 young ones 🤦‍♀️🤣

We look forward to following his progress and seeing him out hopping logs in a few years.

Introducing...
Shadyoak Maverick aka Hughie
Bay C**t YES another one! This was supposed to be my buckskin filly!!!

Makes him 7/8 NF 1/8 TB

In typical Pattie fashion, she had him, stood up, ran to the other side of the yard and started eating 🤦‍♀️
Looks like the cross has worked well. Nice upstanding foal.
