hey are not complicated animals, its humans that make it seem so. If you let them, they will take advantage of you very quickly. Without a leader it is not clear what is expected of them. Everything should be binary, they can, or they can’t, no grey areas this is what creates issues. Dogs don’t take things personal when you ask something of them. They respect, understand, and need authority in their life. This is what keeps control of the pack & you have to be the leader. Being a former Military Police Dog Handler I have trained dogs to an exceptionally high standard. These methods are what I use to teach you how to train your own dog. The key to good training and handling is understanding how to communicate on your dog’s level. This is something I will teach you, and after mastering this, the responses and bond with your dog will improve exponentially.

In the world of Dog training, there are many mixed opinions of what is the best way to train a dog and how to speak to a dog.

I agree we should not be in any way hurtful to our dogs. However, I do not believe my dog cares whether I use the word command or cue. I think in the end as long as we love them that is all that matters.

Food is an excellent tool to train a dog, especially when a puppy is having trouble focusing. But in some environments the distractions are too overwhelming so we need other tools to be able to help them focus.

People will simply say to you take your dog out of that environment but that is not always practical especially if you are on a Puppy program and wanting to teach your dog.

This was another highly successful session in an aim to modify a Dog’s behaviour. It is important we understand a dog’s DNA and disposition and we have to be realistic in what we are hoping to achieve. In most cases we’re asking dogs to go against their natural instincts, which is very hard. Dachshunds are renowned for their barking so it can be a challenging thing to modify.

In this session we started with basic foundations of obedience then progressed to introduction of dogs in the training yard and from there went to more real world situations as you see in the video.

This dog by no means is going to be a silent dog from now on but the owner has skills and the ability to manage these behaviours when they arise.

It is important as dog trainers that we are honest with what we can achieve when it comes to modifying certain dogs temperaments.

This was a very difficult target for Riley. It’s high in the tree and he has to indicate by looking in the direction of it. Normally he gets to put his nose right on it.

This is a great drill I get my clients to do in real world group sessions. I call it “play and stay”.

It’s important we teach our dogs they don’t always get to join in the fun or meet every dog they see. So setting them up like this to learn how to fight their impulses when other dog is having a good time can advance their stay to a very high level. We’re always looking to positively reinforce when a dog is doing a good job staying and on the other hand when they move, they get put back in position do you understand what they did wrong.

This was another very successful session in educating an owner in good leadership. This little Dachshund has been brought up without many good solid foundations in training. In the session that is what we focused on.

In one session we went from the behaviour you see at the start of the video to a complete stranger walking the dog with no aggression or fear.

Along with that we went from a harness to a checkmate collar which has movement similar to a slip lead. This allows an owner to interrupt behaviour that is irrational towards something that is not threatening or dangerous.

Despite what social media will tell you dogs do respond well to praise and correction if done the right way.

This dog has no food drive at all so if you are going to rely on it to improve this behaviour you would have no success.
