She’s been such a superstar through all of this 💛

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend from the team at Vets on Eyre! 🐾

VOE Little heroes ❤️

This past week, we’ve seen just how powerful a blood donation can be.

Meet Monty the Rottweiler 🐶 (owned by our vet nurse Jayla) - who stepped up and quite literally saved a life. His donation went to a dog called Monty who came in with a splenic laceration, and thanks to him, that dog got a second chance.

And then there’s Jack the cat (owned by our vet Dr Mal), whose donation helped a tiny, very sick anaemic kitten keep fighting. 🐱💕

From big dogs to brave little cats, these legends don’t know it… but they are someone’s reason their pet is still here today!

We are so proud of our blood donor crew. 🐾
They may not wear capes, but they are sporting some pretty cool bandanas.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your pet could be a blood donor 🩸, chat to us - you never know whose life they might save.

We have already had to treat two regretful pooches who are wishing they didn’t sample the tasty snacks!! 🍫
Pictured below is the adorable Sadie feeling very sorry for herself after vomiting up the 5 hot cross buns she helped herself to!

📣 Attention all horse owners! 🐎

We’re excited to announce that we now offer digital radiography (X-rays), both in clinic and as a mobile service- yes we’ve finally upgraded!! 😅

This allows us to obtain high-quality x-rays quickly and efficiently, whether at your property or in clinic - reducing stress for your horse and speeding up diagnosis.

Also a reminder we do now provide equine gastroscopy (a camera exam of the stomach) to check for gastric ulcers - a common cause of poor performance, weight loss, girthiness, and behaviour changes.

🐴 Contact the clinic to book or discuss your horse’s needs.

EDIT: Our clinic is SAFE to visit.
The affected puppy is being cared for in a dedicated quarantine/isolation area, with strict infection-control protocols in place.

⚠️ Parvovirus Alert - Port Lincoln ⚠️

Please be aware we currently have a confirmed positive case of parvovirus in our clinic.

The dog has been around Port Lincoln while infectious over the past few days, including:
• London Street Park
• The Oil Jetty
• Shelly’s Beach
• Train Playground (off New West Road)

Parvovirus is highly contagious and potentially fatal, especially for puppies and unvaccinated dogs.
Please ensure your dog is up to date with its parvovirus vaccination and take extra precautions when visiting public areas.

If your dog develops vomiting, diarrhoea (especially bloody), lethargy, or loss of appetite, seek veterinary attention immediately.

This gorgeous girl recently came into our clinic and was diagnosed with a pyometra- a serious, life-threatening infection of the uterus. Thankfully, her owners acted quickly and brought her in before she became too unwell. She underwent surgery and is now home, recovering well (and rocking her post-op onesie 💕🍓).

Pyometra most commonly occurs a few weeks after a heat cycle, which is one of the reasons we recommend desexing female dogs.

Signs to watch for include:
• Lethargy or dullness
• Increased drinking and urination
• Reduced appetite
• Vomiting
• Vulval discharge (not always present)

Early recognition and treatment can be life-saving. If your dog has recently been on heat and isn’t quite herself, please contact us.

🔥 HEATWAVE WARNING – TOMORROW 🔥

Extreme heat is forecast. Please take extra care with your animals:

• Keep pets indoors where possible
• Ensure constant access to fresh, cool water (multiple bowls if needed)
• Avoid walking dogs on hot ground — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws
• Never leave animals in cars, even for a short time

🐰 Rabbits & chooks are especially heat-sensitive:
• Provide shade and good airflow
• Use misting or a sprinkler on the ground for chickens (avoid soaking)
• Frozen water bottles, ice bricks, or chilled tiles can help animals cool themselves

⚠️ Signs of heat stress include excessive panting, lethargy, drooling, collapse or weakness.
If you’re concerned your pet may be overheating, please contact the clinic promptly. 🐾
