We are so proud of our tail babies, even though Luna is now a paraplegic due to IVDD, she can and will still live a long, happy life with her amazing pawrents who didnt give up on her like so many others would have! Meet Dollar 💜🐾 aka Gigi!

One of the most exciting upcoming pairings in our program is our beautiful girl Dollar paired to the stunning Zephyr from Bluegene Frenchies. A pairing intentionally designed with the future health and structure of the French Bulldog breed in mind.

Dollar is both Single copy DVL2✨️AND✨ Single copy CDDY!

She has:
• A natural tail
• A slightly longer muzzle and more open nostrils
• A wide open trachea
• A perfect spine with zero hemivertebrae
• Slightly longer legs
• Slightly pointier ears, influenced by the effect the CDDY gene has on cartilage development

For her very first litter, Dollar will be paired with Zephyr, who is CDDY clear (zero copy).

Why is this important? 👀
The CDDY gene is associated with chondrodystrophy, the form of dwarfism responsible for the shortened, bowed limbs and altered cartilage development seen in many French Bulldogs and is well documentedto be the main contributing factor to earlyonset IVDD (Hansen Type1)

While these traits have become normalised within the breed, reducing and eventually eliminating CDDY has the potential to completely eradicate ealry IVDD, improve overall structure to a healthier phenotype, better movement, joint health, spinal health, and long-term soundness in future generations!

ALL puppies from this pairing will be either:

✨ Single copy CDDY
and some of those will also be
✨ Single copy DVL2

Meaning we continue moving toward healthier, more moderate French Bulldogs while still preserving the beautiful breed type and personalities we all love.

Meet Hugo 💚🐾formerly Jalapeno🌶

Our very exciting up-and-coming stud and the next generation of the Mightyburns Bulls program.

Hugo is a 3rd generation homebred boy, proudly bred right here from our beautiful girl Buggie paired with Abella Frenchies Snoopy. Watching generations of carefully planned breeding come together like this is incredibly rewarding and exactly what our program is all about.

This 10 panel DNA clear, handsome single copy dvl2 blue fawn boy carries:

We are excited to announce one of our next planned pairings here at Mightyburns Bulls... our beautiful girl Ponyo paired with a handsome easten states stud... yet TBA!

Ponyo carries a single copy of the DVL2 gene, while the Stud is both single copy DVL2 and single copy CDDY, making this a very intentional, health-focused pairing aimed at producing more moderate and functional French Bulldogs.

This pairing is expected to produce puppies that may be:
• DVL2 clear
• Single copy DVL2
• Single copy CDDY

Our focus with pairings like this is always to move away from exaggerated traits while preserving the beautiful Frenchie type, personality, and temperament that we all love.
And the colours thay are expected from this pairing are also incredible 🌈

Meet Millie 🩷 formerly Cranberry

Bred from our beautiful girl Blondie and Tralinka’s handsome boy Bruce, Millie is another lovely example of the direction we are striving for here at Mightyburns Bulls, breeding French Bulldogs with health, structure, and function in mind.

Millie carries a single copy of the DVL2 gene, contributing to her:
• Longer, more functional snout
• Open nostrils
• Beautiful wagilly tail
• And importantly, zero hemivertebrae

These features aren’t accidental, they are the result of careful genetic selection and breeding decisions aimed at moving away from exaggerated traits while still preserving the beautiful Frenchie look and personality that we all love.

At Mightyburns Bulls, our focus has always been to produce dogs that are not only beautiful, but structurally healthier and better equipped for a more comfortable and functional life.

And honestly… Millie’s happy little tail might just be one of our favourite parts 🤎🐾

Well well… what do you know? The DVL2 variant has now been directly linked to an increased risk of canine cleft palate!

A recent study has, for the first time, established a confirmed association between cleft palate and the DVL2 mutation. The same mutation already linked to Robinow-like syndrome and the “screw-tail” phenotype seen in Bulldogs and related breeds.

It’s always interesting when long discussed hypotheses are finally backed by evidence. The DVL2 mutation affects midline skeletal development, so it should not be surprising that it also impacts development of the skull and facial structures including the palate.

This large GWAS study analysed 266 affected dogs from a population of more than 1 million veterinary patients across the USA. Researchers identified strong evidence pointing to the c.2044delC variant of the Disheveled-2 (DVL2) gene, with the association confirmed through genotyping.

The study concluded that the DVL2 variant, which is fixed in several breeds and considered characteristic of those breeds, is a significant risk factor for cleft palate in dogs.

One particularly important finding came from American Staffordshire Terriers and AmStaff crossbreeds, where the DVL2 mutation is not considered a defining breed trait. In this subgroup, 19 out of 27 affected dogs were homozygous for the DVL2 variant, compared with 0 out of 15 control dogs.

This is exactly why ethical, health-focused breeding matters. Moving away from harmful mutations should never be controversial simply because certain traits have become normalised or are considered “cute.”

Our Mightyburns Aurora Australis is a truly a gorgeous example of our commitment to thoughtful, health-focused breeding at Mightyburns Bulls, both physically and mentally.

Aurora carries a single copy of the DVL2 gene, which contributes to her having a natural tail and importantly, zero hemivertebrae. These outcomes reflect the kind of structural improvements we aim for through careful genetic selection.

But for us, health is never just physical.

We’ve made the very difficult decision not to breed from beautiful Aurora due to some anxiety and stress-related behaviours. As breeders, we strongly believe that a healthy body and a healthy mind must go hand in hand, and temperament is just as important as structure when making breeding decisions.

With guidance from her vet, appropriate support, and positive reinforcement (R+) training with the beautiful soul behind K9 Inspired- Dog Training, Aurora has already made some really lovely progress. There’s still a journey ahead, but we’re incredibly proud of her and her owner for the work they’ve put in and the wins they’ve achieved so far.

Aurora is a reminder that responsible breeding isn’t just about producing dogs... it’s about making the right decisions for their long-term wellbeing, even when those decisions are hard.
