Meet Dominic!
Dominic is one of our fantastic Vet Nurses here at Parkes Veterinary Hospital. He’s been in the industry for two years and loves making animals — and their owners — feel better. 💚

He’s a coffee drinker ☕, a dog lover 🐶 (especially his dachshund, Chambo!), and can speak four languages!

Dom has worked with some incredible wildlife — including darting rhinos from a helicopter (ethically, of course!) 🦏 — but one day, he’d love to treat elephants.

When it comes to nervous pets, Dominic believes in a calm, gentle approach… and he’s passionate about seeing animals walk out of the clinic happy and healthy again.

⚠️ Parvovirus Alert – Protect Your Pets! ⚠️

Parvovirus (or “parvo”) is a highly contagious and often deadly virus that affects unvaccinated dogs, especially puppies. It attacks the intestines and immune system, causing:
🚨 Severe vomiting and diarrhoea (often bloody)
🚨 Dehydration and weakness
🚨 Rapid decline that can be fatal — even with treatment

Unfortunately, spring and summer are the worst times for parvo outbreaks. The virus thrives in warmer weather and can survive in soil, yards, and kennels for months — even after an infected dog has been there.

💉 The good news? Parvo is preventable.
Keeping your dog’s vaccinations up to date is the most effective protection. Puppies need a full course of vaccinations, and adult dogs require regular boosters to stay protected.

If your dog is vomiting, lethargic, or has diarrhoea — especially if they’re young or unvaccinated — contact us immediately. Early treatment can save lives.
