'New In Town' stayed at CWE this week to be collected and have his semen frozen and stored with us.

Stallion semen collection allows you the peace of mind that you have some of your stallion genetics stored for later use.

Whether you want to offer them to clients or you just want to have some genetics stored in case of accident or injury, frozen semen is a great option.

CWE can collect your stallion off its purpose build mount and we use the latest semen extender to maximise the number of s***m preserved.

With our safe, secure facilities and experienced team, you can be assured that your stallion will be in great hands for the duration of his stay.

Call Central West Equine (02) 6365 4363 today.

Central West Equine is having a OPU (O**m Pick Up) day on the 22nd or 23rd of September, (exact day to be confirmed) with 3 spots remaining! The resulting oocytes to undergo ICSI.

OPU/ICSI is ideal to use for stallions with limited semen stores or with low natural fertility.

It is also indicated in mares with uterine issues which doesn't allow them to carry an embryo for the eight days prior to embryo transfer.

There are only three spots available as only a limited number of mares can be done in a day. Mares would need to be at the clinic for the day.

This is the ideal time of the year to be performing OPU as the mares are generally in transition and have a larger number of smaller follicles which are easier to aspirate. Not all mares are at a suitable stage of their cycle on the day.

It's only available with frozen semen at this stage and mares must be confirmed by Wednesday the 17th of September to allow semen transport.

If you have any questions regarding this or would like to book your mare in, please phone the clinic on 0263 654 363. Thank you.

🔍🐴 Cryptorchidism in Horses: What You Need to Know

A horse with one (or both) testicles retained inside the abdomen or inguinal canal.

Cryptorchidism isn’t just a behavioral concern — it can also lead to long-term health issues and complications if left untreated. These horses often still produce testosterone, which means they may exhibit stallion-like behavior, including aggression and mounting.

🩺 Diagnosis & Treatment:
✔️ Diagnosis is typically confirmed through physical exam, and sometimes ultrasound.
✔️ Surgical removal (cryptorchidectomy) is the only effective treatment — and we’re fully equipped to handle it safely and professionally.

Have a similar issue? Give us a call to book in with Dr David on 6365 4363

Here is an ICSI embryo we’ve recently frozen from one of our client’s high-performance show jumping mares. Oocytes were collected here at Central West Equine and then transported to Queensland where the ICSI was performed. This procedure is a real game changer, particularly for semen which is not that fertile or for stallions where there is a limited supply. It also has benefits for difficult mares. If you are interested, please get in touch with us to learn more.
