🦷🐾 Double the terrier energy, double the pearly whites! ✨💕

Jaz and Kirra, our adorable Cairn Terrier duo, popped in for their dental scale and polishes to help keep those little smiles sparkling! 🐶🪥

🌿 Did you know? Cairn Terriers were originally bred in Scotland to hunt small animals hiding among piles of rocks, known as cairns! These clever, confident little dogs were made for digging, exploring and getting into all sorts of adventures. No wonder they have so much character! 🏴🐾

Just like us, our four-legged friends benefit from regular dental care. A professional scale and polish helps remove plaque and tartar build-up, while regular dental checks help us keep an eye on their oral health. 🦷💚 And don't forget, brushing your dog's teeth at home is one of the best ways to help maintain a healthy smile between vet visits!

🎃👻 Happy Howl-o-ween from all of us at Northgate Veterinary Surgery! 🐾🧡

Halloween is all about spooky decorations, trick-or-treating and delicious goodies… but some of those frightfully tempting treats can spell trouble for our furry friends! 🍬🍫

Here are a few Halloween hazards to keep an eye out for:
🍫 Chocolate – can be toxic to both dogs and cats.
🍬 Lollies and chewing gum – some contain xylitol, an artificial sweetener that can be extremely toxic to dogs.
🍇 Raisins and sultanas – even small amounts can cause serious kidney problems in dogs.
🍭 Wrappers and lolly sticks – can cause choking or intestinal blockages if swallowed.
🍰 Rich, fatty treats – can upset little tummies and, in some cases, trigger pancreatitis.

👻 Our biggest tip? Keep the Halloween stash somewhere paws can't reach, remind little trick-or-treaters not to share their goodies, and stick to pet-friendly treats for your four-legged family members! 🐶🐱

If your pet manages to sneak a spooky snack, don't wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your vet promptly for advice, as some toxic treats can cause serious problems even before signs become obvious.

🐾💙 Bruce is back to his quirky best! 💙🐾

Our adorable 2 year old British Bulldog came in with a swollen right lip, so we treated him with Dexapent and Niramine injections. Dexapent is a corticosteroid injection used by veterinarians to help reduce inflammation and allergic reactions, while Niramine is an antihistamine used to help relieve allergy-related symptoms. Thankfully, he’s recovered beautifully and is back to being his lovable, cheeky self! ✨

Lip swelling in dogs can have several causes, including irritation or an allergic reaction, so it’s always important to have sudden swelling checked by your vet especially if it’s affecting their breathing, eating or comfort. 🩺🐶

We’re so happy to see Bruce feeling like himself again! ♥️

🐣🌿 Fledgling season is here! Before you rescue that little bird, have a read! 💚

Have you spotted a fluffy little bird hopping around your backyard, sitting on the footpath or looking a little lost? 🐦 Don’t panic! They might just be learning to fly.

Fledglings are young birds that have left the nest but are still learning to fly and find their way in the big wide world. They can look a little clumsy and spend plenty of time on the ground, but their parents are often nearby, keeping a watchful eye and bringing them food! 💕

Here’s how you can help our little feathered friends:

🐦 Leave them be! If the bird is feathered, alert and uninjured, observe from a distance. Its parents are often nearby, even if you can’t see them.

🌳 Think it’s fallen from the nest? If it’s a very young bird with few or no feathers, try placing it back in its nest if you can safely reach it. If the nest is inaccessible, contact a wildlife rescuer for advice on the safest next step.

🐱 Keep pets away! Keep cats indoors and dogs on a lead or away from the area. Young birds are especially vulnerable while learning to navigate their surroundings.

🚨 Injured or in danger? If the bird is bleeding, weak, visibly injured or has been caught by a cat or dog, seek advice from a wildlife rescue organisation or vet promptly.

💚 Give them space! Avoid unnecessary handling, keep children at a distance and watch from afar to see whether the parents return.

Remember, a bird on the ground doesn’t automatically mean it needs rescuing! Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is give nature a little space. 🥹🌿

Plastic spiderwebs might look creepy and cute around the house, but they can entangle birds, possums, lizards and other small animals, leaving them trapped, injured or unable to escape. 💔🦜

Our native wildlife plays such an important role in keeping our environment healthy, so let’s give them a fright-free Halloween! 💛🌿

🎃 Choose wildlife-friendly decorations, skip the plastic spiderwebs and keep the spooky season safe for our little Aussie locals. 🐨🐾

🤍 A very bittersweet goodbye to Dr Ann 🤍

Today was Dr Ann’s last day with us at Northgate Veterinary Surgery after 3 wonderful years as part of our clinic family. 🥹🐾

Ann has been such a valued part of our team. Her kindness, knowledge, dedication and genuine care for our patients have made such a lasting impact, and we feel so lucky to have had her with us. 🩺🤍

Thank you for all the laughs, memories, hard work and, most importantly, for the wonderful care you’ve given to so many of our patients and their families. 🐶🐱

While we’re sad to see you go, we’re so excited to see what’s next for you! ✨
