🐴 SOMETHING VERY EXCITING IS COMING TO URBAN EQUINE! 🐴

This is one I’ve been really excited to put together. 💚

We’re currently gauging interest in an Equine Soundness, Joint Health & Gait Assessment Clinic with the incredibly experienced Dr Glenn Robertson-Smith × Urban Equine.

With more than 40 years in equine veterinary medicine, Glenn brings an enormous amount of knowledge in equine surgery, lameness, joint disease, performance horses and veterinary medicine — and we want to combine that knowledge with the practical, whole-horse assessment approach we use here at Urban Equine.

🐎 Joint disease & arthritis
💉 Current joint treatment options
🧴 Joint supplements — what are we actually paying for and what does the evidence say?
👣 Gait & lameness assessment
🦴 Hoof balance, compensation & movement
🏇 Performance and soundness
🔎 Demonstration horses & real case studies

This isn’t about sitting through hours of complicated veterinary terminology.

We want it to be interactive, practical and relevant to everyday horse owners — where you can watch horses move, learn what to look for, ask questions and better understand when those little changes might be telling you something.

Whether you have a pleasure horse, trail horse, young horse, older horse or high-level performance horse, there should be something to take away from this day.

Why do so many horses end up at Urban Equine?

Because I know what it’s like to be searching for answers.

Over the years I’ve owned horses that have challenged me in every possible way. Horses with unexplained lameness, recurring injuries, poor performance, behavioural changes, muscle issues, back pain and complex conditions that weren’t always easy to diagnose.

Those horses taught me to stop looking at just the obvious problem… and start looking at the whole horse.

That’s why I invested in the latest assessment and therapy equipment and continue to learn from veterinarians, farriers and industry professionals. Every horse deserves someone willing to keep asking “why?”

When a horse comes to Urban Equine, they don’t just get a treatment.

✔️ I watch them move and assess their biomechanics.

✔️ I listen to your concerns and the horse’s history.

✔️ I use tools like thermal imaging, gait analysis, saddle mapping, shockwave, Kloud therapy, Medkey and other therapies to build the bigger picture.

✔️ I work alongside your vet, farrier, dentist and other professionals because no one person has all the answers.

✔️ And if I believe your horse needs further veterinary investigation, I’ll tell you. Your horse’s welfare will always come first.

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a horse become comfortable again, watching them perform at their best, or simply helping an owner finally understand what their horse has been trying to tell them.

The greatest compliment I receive is when clients trust me with another horse, recommend me to their friends, or call because they know I’ll do everything I can to help.

This isn’t just my job… it’s my passion.

If your horse just doesn’t seem quite right, let’s work together to find out why.

📩 Send me a message to book an assessment with Urban Equine.

Because horses can’t tell us where it hurts… but if we take the time to listen, they’ll often show us.

Old injuries have long memories…

Meet Peggy.

As a 2-year-old, Peggy sustained a significant kick to her chest that literally ripped the muscle into a V-shaped tear. Thankfully it healed well enough for her to continue on, but old injuries rarely disappear completely.

As we’re now preparing Peggy for racing, I noticed her chest wasn’t moving quite as freely as I’d like, so it was time to reassess the old injury.

These thermal images tell the story.

📸 The first two images were taken before treatment. Notice the concentrated hot spots through the centre of the old injury. This pattern suggests the tissues are working harder through that area, which can be seen with long-standing scar tissue, altered movement patterns or chronic overload.

📸 The second two images were taken immediately after shockwave therapy. Rather than one concentrated area of heat, the thermal pattern becomes much broader and more evenly distributed. This indicates an immediate change in tissue response and circulation following treatment.

While thermography doesn’t diagnose an injury, it gives us an incredible window into how the body is responding.

With chronic injuries like Peggy’s, my goal isn’t simply to treat where it hurts.

It’s to improve tissue quality, reduce restrictions, restore normal movement and give the body the best opportunity to perform comfortably.

As Peggy progresses back into work I’ll also be incorporating:

✔️ Shockwave therapy to remodel chronic scar tissue and stimulate healing.
✔️ Medkey neuromodulation to improve nervous system regulation and muscle recruitment.
✔️ Kloud (PEMA) therapy to encourage circulation, relax surrounding muscles and support recovery.
✔️ Careful exercise progression to rebuild strength and mobility through the chest and shoulder.

Old injuries often become performance limiters years after they occur. By combining advanced therapies with objective assessment tools like thermography, we can monitor how the body responds and tailor treatment to each individual horse.

Sometimes the injury is old…

But the body is only just telling you it still needs help.

While I’ve been away in Bali, the KLOUD has been hard at work! 🐴✨

Although I’ve been enjoying some time overseas, the KLOUD hasn’t stopped helping horses feel and perform their best. From treating horses at home to working with competitors at the recent Cutting event in Tamworth, it’s been fantastic to hear the positive feedback and see so many horses benefiting from their sessions.

Whether it’s helping horses relax, recover after competition, ease muscle tension, support mobility, or simply feel their best, the KLOUD continues to impress across a wide range of disciplines and performance levels.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the KLOUD while I’ve been away and to those who have trusted us with their horses’ wellbeing. It’s exciting to see more and more horse owners discovering what this amazing technology can do.

I’m looking forward to getting back home, catching up with everyone, and seeing all the horses that have been enjoying their KLOUD treatments while I’ve been gone.

Have you tried the KLOUD on your horse yet? We’d love to hear about your experience! 💚

🐴✨ A little introduction for those new to Urban Equine & Urban Trails ✨🐴

For those that don’t know me, I’m Tracey Mallia — the face behind Urban Equine Therapy & Urban Trails.

Horses have always been my life. From a young age I was completely horse obsessed, and that passion has grown into not only working with horses every day, but helping them perform, recover, rehabilitate, and thrive both mentally and physically.

Over the years I’ve developed Urban Equine into a multi-modality equine therapy and rehabilitation service, combining practical horse knowledge with advanced technology and hands-on treatment approaches to help horses move and feel their best.

My passion lies in identifying compensation patterns, soreness, muscular issues, movement restrictions, and performance limitations before they become major injuries — while also helping horses recover stronger following injury or workload stress.

At Urban Equine we work with a wide range of horses from western performance horses, ranch, trail, and pleasure horses through to eventers, show jumpers, racehorses, and pleasure horses.

Services include:
▫️ Gait Analysis & Biomechanics
▫️ Thermography/Thermal Imaging
▫️ Shockwave Therapy
▫️ Cryotherapy
▫️ PEMF & PEMA Therapy including the Kloud system
▫️ Medkey Neuromodulation
▫️ Saddle Mapping & Saddle Fit Analysis
▫️ Hands-on muscle and fascia work
▫️ Rehabilitation & recovery support

We commonly assist with:
▫️ Muscle soreness & compensation
▫️ Back pain & tightness
▫️ Soft tissue injuries
▫️ Tendon & ligament rehabilitation
▫️ Recovery after competition
▫️ Poor performance
▫️ Behaviour linked to discomfort
▫️ General maintenance & mobility

I’m a big believer that every horse is different, which means no single therapy suits every horse or every condition. That’s why I use a combination of technologies and treatment systems tailored to the individual horse and their workload, injury, personality, and goals.

Urban Equine is also proudly based alongside Urban Trails — Australia’s largest mountain trail course — allowing horses to not only rehabilitate physically, but also mentally through confidence building, movement, and partnership work.

Whether your horse is an elite athlete, a paddock companion, or somewhere in between, my goal is always the same:
✨ To help them move better, feel better, and perform at their full potential.

🐴✨ Gadget comparison day with Joey! ✨🐴

Today Joey had a session with both PEMF and the Centropix Kloud so we could see which gadget he preferred — and the results were pretty interesting 👀

We started with PEMF, allowing Joey time to process the stimulation and relaxation through the body. He was attentive and responsive, showing some nice signs of release and relaxation.

Then it was time to introduce the Kloud… and safe to say Joey made his opinion known 😂
Lots of licking, chewing, yawning, stretching and a very relaxed expression as he settled into the session. He really seemed to enjoy the gentle feel of the Kloud and the way his body responded to it.

But this is the important part 👇

There is no “one gadget fits all” in therapy work.

Every horse is different, and what system we choose depends on:
✔️ The horse’s personality and sensitivity
✔️ The condition or injury being treated
✔️ Whether we are targeting recovery, relaxation, circulation, fascia, muscle tension or performance support
✔️ How the horse responds on the day

Some horses absolutely thrive with PEMF, others switch off beautifully with the Kloud, and many benefit from a combination of both depending on what we are trying to achieve.

That’s why assessment and understanding the horse in front of you matters so much 🐎✨

Joey definitely gave us plenty of feedback today… and we love when the horses tell us exactly what they need 💙

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Client Review

Tracey is unbelievably knowledgeable and skilled in all aspects of horse rehabilitation, biomechanics, and care.

Every time I bring my horse in for treatment, it’s more than just a session — it’s a complete “whole horse” check-in. Tracey takes the time to assess how everything is progressing and shares valuable insights along the way.

She has a very practical yet calming approach with horses and seems to instinctively know how to handle even the more spirited or anxious ones, making treatments in a new environment stress-free and effective.

I always leave feeling confident that my horse has the best opportunity to continue building strength — and I walk away with a whole new level of knowledge myself.

Recently, my horse was struggling with an abscess. Despite veterinary care, there was little improvement, and the swelling and heat in the leg persisted for weeks. Tracey recommended specific hoof products and a management approach, and within 24 hours we saw a radical improvement.

I am absolutely delighted with the results and cannot speak highly enough of Tracey. Money very well spent.

Thanks Gen

🧠🐎 Gadget Girl Farriery Moment – Let’s Talk Biomechanics

This horse is currently dealing with 3rd carpal bone disease, so the goal today was reducing concussion, improving breakover, and stabilising the limb.

What you’re looking at is a Natural Balance shoe with a lateral extension.

Now here’s where the biomechanics gets interesting.

🔹 Natural Balance Shoe
These shoes are designed to bring the breakover point further back under the foot, which means the horse can leave the ground earlier and with less leverage through the limb.

Why does that matter?

Because every extra millisecond the toe is stuck on the ground creates more torque travelling up the limb — straight into the carpus.

For a horse with 3rd carpal bone disease, that extra stress is something we want to reduce as much as possible.

🔹 Lateral Extension
Notice the extra width on the outside branch of the shoe.

That extension helps support the limb laterally and control rotation through the hoof capsule.

Think of it like widening the base of a table leg —
the wider the base, the more stable the structure above it becomes.

In this case it helps:
✔ Stabilise the limb during loading
✔ Reduce excessive lateral collapse
✔ Support the joints higher up the leg

🔬 This is where farriery becomes biomechanics.

Tiny changes at the foot can dramatically change how forces travel through the limb.

And when you combine correct shoeing, therapy, training adjustments, and good management, you give horses with conditions like this the best chance of staying comfortable and functional.

Because the hoof isn’t just a foot…

It’s the foundation of the entire limb.

🐎

Gadget girl loves this stuff.

✨ Urban Equine Workshop – Expression of Interest✨

Hi everyone,

I’d love to gauge interest. We had an event planned but numbers didn’t support it.

Stop treating pieces — start understanding the whole horse. Learn how movement, feet, and body systems connect to drive performance, soundness, and long-term results.

🔍 What we’ll cover:
• Gait analysis – understanding movement and what your horse is telling you
• Hoof balance – how the foot influences the entire body
• Shockwave therapy
• Kloud (PEMA) treatments
• Medkey neuromodulation
• Cryotherapy
• PEMF

This isn’t just about learning what to use — it’s about understanding why, when, and how to choose the right tool for the right horse.

🐴 We’ll be connecting the dots between:
Movement ➡️ Posture ➡️ Hoof balance ➡️ Nervous system ➡️ Performance

Supportive, hands-on, and straight to the point — real demos, real answers, and knowledge you’ll actually use.

Whether you’re an owner, rider, or industry professional — this is about giving you the confidence to make better decisions for your horse.

📩 If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, comment below or send me a message so I can get an idea of numbers. And get it off the ground !
