💳 **A CHANGE TO PAYMENTS FROM 1 OCTOBER**

Just a quick heads-up about a small change coming to Sherwood.

From 1 October 2026, we’ll no longer be accepting card payments, either online or at the kennels.

Instead, payments will need to be made by bank transfer prior to arriving, using the account details provided on your invoice, or in cash at drop off.

If you already have a booking with us after 1 October, don’t worry, we’ll also send you a reminder before your payment is due so you know exactly what to do.

We know card payments are convenient, but with changes happening around card surcharges, we’ve decided the simplest option for our little business is to step away from them altogether rather than build those (significant) costs into our prices.

🐾 Happy International Dog Day from Sherwood Boarding Kennels! 🐾

If there’s one thing we can say with certainty, it’s that life at Sherwood would be pretty boring without dogs!

Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of welcoming so many different personalities through our gates - the excited regulars who seem to know exactly where they’re going, the first-time guests who need a little extra reassurance, the energetic ones who are ready to GO the second they arrive, and the quieter souls who just want a cuddle and someone to sit with them for a while.

Some stay with us once, some come back year after year, and some have been visiting Sherwood for so long that they feel like part of the furniture 🐶

Being a small, family-run boarding kennel means we get to know our guests. We learn their little quirks, their favourite things, who loves a scratch behind the ears, who thinks dinner should have been served five minutes ago, and who has absolutely perfected the art of convincing us they haven't already had a treat....

And behind every dog who comes through our gates is a family trusting us to care for someone incredibly important to them. That's something we never take for granted.

So on International Dog Day, we're celebrating every dog who has ever called Sherwood their home away from home - past, present, new and returning 🏡🐾

Thank you to all of our wonderful Sherwood families for sharing your dogs with us and allowing us to be a small part of their lives.

🇨🇳 And that’s a wrap on Shanghai! 🐾

After a very busy week, it’s time to say goodbye to Shanghai and start making our way home (via Bali for three days of pure R&R)… with slightly heavier suitcases and considerably more ideas than we arrived with. 😄

We came to China to visit Pet Fair Asia, meet manufacturers, explore new products and see what’s happening in the pet industry beyond our little corner of WA — and it certainly delivered.

We’ve met some wonderful people, talked through plenty of possibilities for Sherwood, looked at everything from pet textiles and enrichment products to things we didn’t even know existed, swapped more WeChat details than we can count… and learned an enormous amount along the way.

Not everything we looked at will make it back to Sherwood, but there are definitely a few ideas and potential partnerships we’re excited to keep exploring once we get home. 👀🐶

And, of course, we managed to squeeze in a little Shanghai along the way — incredible food, bright lights, beautiful old streets, a lot of walking and just a tiny bit of shopping. 😉

For now though, it’s goodbye Shanghai 🇨🇳 and onwards to the next part of our adventure before we head home to our dogs, our team and Sherwood. 💚

A huge thank you to everyone who welcomed us, shared their knowledge and took the time to meet with us this week.

Now comes the fun part… deciding which of these ideas actually make the cut! 🐾

🐾 Sherwood goes to Shanghai! 🇨🇳

It’s difficult to explain just how BIG Pet Fair Asia is until you’re actually standing in the middle of it.

Hall after hall after hall, filled with everything imaginable for dogs, cats and other animals (including quite a few we’d never imagined 😂). From food, enrichment, bedding, grooming, to technology, equipment, fashion and plenty more.

We’ve spent the last couple of days walking what feels like approximately 47,000 kilometres, exploring the different halls, meeting suppliers and getting a look at what’s happening in the pet industry around the world.

There have definitely been a few “ooooh… we could do THAT at Sherwood” moments along the way. 👀

Here are a few snapshots from around the expo to give you just a tiny idea of the scale of this place.

"✈️ **THE BOSSES ARE LEAVING THE COUNTRY…** 🇨🇳

This week, Sean and I are swapping kennels, gumboots and dog hair for Shanghai as we head to **Pet Fair Asia** — one of the biggest pet industry expos in the world. 🐾

We’ll be spending a few days exploring what’s new in the pet world, meeting suppliers, investigating products and bringing home plenty of ideas for Sherwood. There may also be a ""small"" amount of sightseeing and shopping involved. Purely for research purposes, obviously. 👀😂

This expo is massive with 2,600 exhibitors across 16 buildings with 120,000 trade visitors and 390,000 retail visitors over five days!!

Meanwhile, back at Sherwood, everything will be running as normal with Sarah, Harley and Laila holding down the fort and keeping our guests fed, exercised, entertained and thoroughly spoiled.

We’re not entirely sure who should be more worried about being left unsupervised, them or us.

We’ll keep you posted from both sides. 🇨🇳🐶

📅 A Little Reminder About Cancellations 🐾

We know plans change. Holidays get moved, flights get cancelled, family circumstances change and sometimes you simply don’t need your booking anymore. We completely understand.

What we do ask is that you let us know as soon as you know your plans have changed.

Sherwood is a small boarding kennel with a limited number of spaces, and during busy periods we’re regularly turning away other families once we’re fully booked. When a kennel has been reserved but is cancelled at the last minute — or a guest simply doesn’t arrive — we often have no opportunity to offer that space to someone else.

That’s why we have a cancellation policy in place.

It’s not about penalising anyone for changing their plans. It’s about allowing us to manage our bookings fairly, keep our little business sustainable and give another family the opportunity to use a kennel if you no longer need it.

So if you’re ever unsure about a booking, please just give us a call. We’d much rather have an early conversation with you than discover on check-in day that your plans have changed.

And to the overwhelming majority of our wonderful clients who keep us updated when their plans change — thank you. It genuinely makes a huge difference to a small business like ours. 💚🐾

Breakfast and dinner. Also lunch. Snacks encouraged. I have never been fed at home.

EXERCISE:
Unlimited, unless it's raining. Or cold. Or I'm tired.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Please throw ball.
Again.
Again.
Again.

TEMPERAMENT:
Perfect. Any allegations made by my family are completely unfounded.

MEDICATION:
None, but cheese may be administered regularly as a preventative measure.

EMERGENCY CONTACT:
Don't call them. I'm on holidays.

🧳 Packing for a Sherwood holiday? 🐾

The good news is… your dog doesn't need much!

We provide the beds, bowls, Royal Canin biscuits and chicken & vegetable dog roll, so for many of our guests, all Mum or Dad really needs to bring is the dog. 😄

There are a few things worth remembering though:

🐾 Their own food if they're on a special diet or you'd prefer to keep them on their usual food
🐾 Any medication they'll need during their stay, clearly labelled with instructions
🐾 Anything else we've specifically discussed with you before check-in

And while we know that much-loved blankets, beds and toys can smell reassuringly like home, we'd generally suggest leaving anything truly precious at home. Dogs have been known to suddenly discover hidden talents in textile destruction while on holidays. 😂

Most importantly, make sure we've got all the information we need about your dog's routine, health and personality.

Then hand us the lead, enjoy your holiday and leave the rest to us. 💚🐾
