I did some pretty bad goat-math and stuffed up Millie’s due date and completely surprised ourselves with this little lady turning up weeks ahead of what I thought I had planned. She was in fact perfectly on time when I recalculated.

It was paddock shuffle day yesterday and this fellow caught my eye. A few months ago he was our gangly junior buck and yesterday out of the paddock we pulled this very grown up beast in all his Wintery shaggy pee-stained glory. Looking forward to his July babies (if I have dates right 🤔)

Pippi Update

We are leaping and bounding forward, literally and metaphorically.

At 3.5 weeks old she now rivals a ladies size 9 thong. But still no match for the lawn with grass one week overdue for mowing. Not to mention, grass is tickly!

She is now 1780g and sucking down bottles like a pro.

She is full of sass and happily head butting her way through life. Our one grace being her little horns have not yet erupted. I hope they stay in her head a while longer as she is still too small for the iron.

Having a house goat is rather entertaining. It will be a sad day when she will have to go join the other babies and learn how to goat.

Pippi Update

She’s reached a tonne!!! At 15 days old she has finally grown to the size of a small newborn!! She’s now accelerating forward and is bright and cheeky and popping up a storm.

Her first two weeks have taken a few interventions to get her to this point:

Stomach tubed colostrum at birth
Syringe feeding colostrum in the first 24 hours when she wouldn’t take enough by bottle
Heat packs for the first 72 hours to keep her warm - and then remaining indoors in QLD summer (we even went without the A/C for a few days 🥵 until she could hold her own body temp)
2 x rounds of subcut fluids to get her tiny tummy moving and hydration boost to increase her bottle feeding.
2-3 hourly feeds round the clock in week 1 and now out to 5-6 hours midnight to morning and 3 hourly otherwise
Mumma goat milked daily to provide all the good stuff.
Peptosyl treatment while her tiny tummy couldn’t cope with proper digestion.
Probiotics daily for increased tummy health.
Front leg splints for 4 days while she couldn’t support her weight. She’s still a bit lax but getting stronger.

I was worried she would be really lonely but she loves snuggling up to her teddies. Although in the last few days she has also been beating them up!

Thank you to those who have been cheering her on and sending us encouragements. We are certainly hopeful now the hard part is done.

Pippi Update

Our tiny miracle baby is now 9 days old. She has gained over 300g in weight. Her main struggle has been her very weak little leggies. Today she was trying out her new magic shoes. It’s been hard to pop when your legs flop.
