Does the amount of fat in your pet’s food matter?

Fat is an important nutrient for your pet – it provides
energy, insulation, cushioning, and has many other
important roles in animals’ bodies.
Both too little and too much fat can cause health
issues in dogs and cats.

High fat diets are also poor choices for overweight or
low energy cats and dogs; fat is so high in calories that
they can’t eat very much of a high fat food without
getting too many calories.
Some dogs don’t tolerate high fat diets well and will
get diarrhea.
In general, dogs with gastrointestinal issues, a history
of pancreatitis, diabetes, or high levels of fat in their
blood may benefit from lower fat diet.

At MVC we offer a weight loss clinic just ask for more
info if you feel your dog or cat is overweight..

Do brush your pets teeth?

Regular brushing of your pet’s teeth helps to prevent
the buildup of plaque and tartar and reduce the risk of
gum disease.

Bacteria from unhealthy teeth and gums can enter the
bloodstream, which can cause disease in the heart,
liver and kidneys.

Clinical Pathology In-House
MVC has in house blood machines as well as general
and dental radiography units. This allow us to get rapid
results to make the best treatment choices for your
pet.

Our vets have a keen interest in pathology and
routinely use these skills when working up cases
involving skin, ears and lumps.

🌱Grass Seeds In The Summer Time...
These pesky little beasts can wreak havoc. Certain
types of grass seeds are shaped like a pointy arrow
with a sharp tip and once they are caught in your pet’s
fur they can start to burrow aggressively into your pet’s
skin with no way of escaping.
If the seed does not exit, a painful abscess can form
and this may lead to the need for surgery to remove
the seed or remnants.
Keep an eye out for a lump or swelling (particularly
between the toes), excessive licking, pain or bloody
discharge from a small wound.

Thinking of buying a Kitten soon?
Here's the all you need to know about "Kitten Vaccinations"
At MVC we advocate a combined F3 FIV vaccination protocol for the complete safety of your pet.
It protects them against the contagious diseases:
✔️Feline Rhinotracheitis Virus
✔️Feline Calicivirus
✔️Feline Parvovirus/Panleucopaenia
✔️Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)
Unfortunately , we see a lot of cats with Feline Aids (FIV) in Murwillumbah.
We will make you a vaccination program to suit your kitten's age and lifestyle.
We also send you reminders about their booster vaccinations.
Any concerns or questions contact our friendly staff.

Here are some facts you may not know about fleas...
Fleas start feeding on blood in just 5 minutes
✓ A single flea can lay up to 50 eggs daily
✓ Adult fleas can live up to 2 months
✓ Fleas are stubborn and notoriously hard to eliminate
It can take 8 weeks or more to remove fleas from your environment.
BRAVECTO® provides long-lasting protection against fleas for cats and
dogs that outlasts the flea life cycle.

It makes me Very Angry to have to read a one star google review on our website that is completely fabricated!
To suggest that one of our most empathetic nurses ( this is the nurse that fought back tears when an older dog came in later on tonight with a horrific wound and stayed back overtime to help with the surgery to fix it❤️) had not offered best advice when faced with a client who was enquiring anout a dog suffering from tick paralysis. This client spoke in “ what ifs” and when given an estimate on 24 hours treatment and care, decided to “ think about it”. The last thing this client was told was that their dog definitely needed veterinary care.
Was this dog on tick prevention? Probably not, despite living here.
If this dog was “ slowly dying “ from a tick , then this person was watching this happen and still chose not to treat.
Please, take responsibility for your pets. Dont blame others who spend their lives dedicated to doing What Is Best For The Animals for your own failings.
Please, if you have had a remarkable experience at MVC, bury this unjust and unreasonable google review with your personal positive experiences!🥰

Keeping your pets’ ears healthy and clean is easy if you follow these
simple tips:
TIP 1:
Clip away hair from the inner surface of the earflap of dogs with pendulous
ears to aid the circulation of air and decrease humidity around the ear canal.
TIP 2:
Routinely apply ear cleaners such as EpiOtic® to help minimise the build-up
of the perpetuating factors (eg. moisture and excess wax and debris) and
leave ears in optimum condition.
TIP 3:
Routine ear cleansing can be performed after every shampooing or swim
to help minimise excessive moisture within the ear canal as this can be a
perpetuating factor that may contribute to infection and inflammation.

It’s important to follow your veterinarian’s instructions to ensure successful
treatment and to avoid the re-occurrence of the ear infection.

🐾 Senior cat tip: Keep litter trays, food, and water bowls easily accessible. Older cats often find stairs and long distances difficult.

Little adjustments at home make a big difference.
