It's Senior Pet Care Month — here's what your older pet actually needs.
As pets age, their needs change.
Here are a few simple ways to support them:
🏥 Vet visits every 6 months (not just once a year)
🦷 Regular dental checks — dental disease is more common in older pets
🍽️ Age-appropriate nutrition — senior formulas exist for a reason
🛏️ Orthopaedic bedding to ease sore joints
🐾 Gentle, low-impact exercise — shorter walks, more often
💊 Ask your vet about pain management if they seem stiff or slow
🐾 Jackets in winter to keep them warmer
The golden years can truly be golden — with the right care.

Did you know 1 in 3 pets will go missing at some point in their life? 😔 Microchipping is one of the simplest, most affordable things you can do to protect them. The procedure takes seconds, and it works for the life of your pet.
If your dog or cat isn't chipped yet — make it your next vet appointment.

Yes, microchipping pets is compulsory. In New South Wales (and most other Australian states), all cats and dogs must be microchipped by 12 weeks of age or before they are sold, adopted, or given away, whichever comes first.

Hello to the first day of winter. 🥶
As temperatures are set to drop remember to keep your pets warm and if your pet is older they will possibly need a jacket.

Did you know that over 80% of dogs will have periodontal disease (AKA gum disease) by the age of 3?
Plaque buildup, tartar and tooth decay all are things that could be the unfortunate – and uncomfortable – reality of your beloved pet.
But, the good news is that there are steps you can take that would make any pet parent proud.
🐾 Brush your dog's teeth
Like for humans, regular brushing helps remove food particles and bacteria that can lead to dental issues. Of course, your dog needs a little assistance with this. Using a dog-specific toothbrush 2-3 times a week will do the trick. Make sure to introduce it slowly!
🐾 Provide dental toys
Your dog would love another reason for a new toy, but we also agree that this is a pretty good one. Not only are dental toys entertaining, but they also help clean your dog's teeth and gums.
🐾 Nutrition and treats
Quality nutrition is one of the keys to good health, including oral health. Dental sticks and treats also provide plenty of dental benefits!
🐾 Book regular checkups
We consider this an absolute essential, as we'll check the condition of your dog's teeth during their annual or biannual checkups. We can identify any issues early on – and advise you on what steps you can take to help prevent it from progressing – and provide professional cleaning when necessary.
Your dog will thank you in the long run!

Winter is not far away!
However, it feels like its already here.
Start to think about keeping your pets warm too.
Some ideas are:
1. Position your pet's bed away from cold surfaces
2. Senior pets are likely to experience aggravation of their arthritis during cold weather adding a good winter jacket can help.
3. Be mindful of pets around heaters as this could potentially dry their skin out or burn them.

Just like humans, when cats don’t feel well, they can neglect self care so a dull, flaky, or matted coat can be a sign of underlying issues such as poor nutrition, allergies, or even stress.
Regular grooming and proper care can help maintain a cat’s coat, but paying attention to changes in its condition can also alert you to potential health concerns that may need attention.
Using products like Vetz Petz® Antinol® Plus which is a natural supplement that supports skin + coat health through its potent anti-inflammatory properties.
It contains a powerful blend of two marine lipid concentrates, selected for their unique nutrient synergy. This blend provides a full spectrum of highly bioavailable
Omega-3 fatty acids, along with essential polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and antioxidants.
These components work together to reduce inflammation and improve skin and coat condition. Additionally, by promoting a soft, manageable coat and supporting overall
skin health.
Antinol® can help address conditions related to excessive shedding or overgrooming, often triggered by stress or underlying sensitivities.
Any concerns with your pet book in for a consultation today.
