We’ve had a lot of new followers lately, so we thought it was time to re-introduce ourselves! 👋
Who are we, and what are our breeding objectives?

Murramungee Angus Stud has been breeding premium Angus cattle since its establishment in 1989. We are run by three generations of family across north-east Victoria and southern New South Wales.

At Murramungee Angus, we maintain a smaller herd size so we can make carefully selected purchases of top-quality sires from around the world and individually match them with our dams to produce exceptional bloodlines and progeny. ✨🐮

Our breeding objectives include:
◾️ Excellent structure and cattle built to last long term
◾️ Docility and temperament are non-negotiable — all our cattle must be quiet and easy to handle
◾️ Balancing excellent calving ease and low birthweights while not compromising growth rates

All of our cattle go through multiple levels of selection to ensure only the best make it through. This includes weights recorded at birth, ongoing docility assessments, regular monitoring of calves’ average daily gain, muscle scanning, foot scoring, crush-side semen evaluation, laboratory semen morphology, and pregnancy testing.

All our bulls are vaccinated with Pestigard, Ultravac 5-in-1, and receive a double vaccination with Vibrovax. 💉

So who are we? Our human team includes a number of qualified members, including our founders, Howard and Lyn Brown, who have been farming for over 45 years! Our team also includes an engineer — our expert at crunching numbers — and two veterinarians. 🧑‍🌾👩‍🌾👷👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️

Many farmers use Angus Selection Indexes to chose their future stud bulls. What are selection indexes? What is the Angus breeding index ($A).

The Angus breeding index is an estimate of the overall genetic differences between animals in net profitability. This particular index focuses on improved growth and mature cow weights, Carcase qualities, calving ease and fertility - some of the most important qualities of cattle production! These are designed to make your decision making easier!
