Sleeping! Not dead! I crept up so close to him (on the other side of the fence, of course) and watched his eyelids flicker as he dreamed 🥰. I feel such joy that the deer can relax in safety and love here, letting go of the constant hyper-vigilance for predators or danger that creates such stress in their bodies. It is such a privilege to get to know their personalities and quirks when they come to us. This is Boss; he is the ‘alpha’ stag here, and likes so show off and posture and growl and send out lots of stinky pheromones 🤣. He startled awake after I took this photo, and yawned and stretched his hoofs out, then curled back up and went to sleep again 🥹

Yes it’s a bit rainy and cold, but we are still open for adventures and deer cuddles. Just wear boots and jackets and appropriate expectations! We are a funny little deer rescue, not Australia Zoo (bless them)!

Exhausted. Overstimulated. Drained. Self-care is collapsing back into bed after the 6am feed, forgetting to zip her crate, and ending up with a baby deer as my weighted blanket 🤣. Thanks to my daughters for gifting me the Folklore bedding from . What a gorgeous delight 🥰

Hi everyone, my name is Persephone Sparkle. All I remember is that I walked and scampered along roads and past houses for hours and hours, and there were big scary cars and dogs and I was soooo cold, and finally I was so tired that I curled up next to a nice letterbox and hoped that maybe someone would mail me back to my mum 😔. A kind boy and his mum found me and even though no one knew where my mum could be, they called some deer-humans to look after me and give me milk and friends and sunshine and grass, and now I feel happy and safe again. You might see me if you visit the deer sanctuary these holidays; I’ll be curled up in my warm cubby next to my human-mum. PS - If you have any old towels or linen you don’t need anymore, me and my brothers and sisters would love it! We wee and poo a lot 😬

Sooooo… things have been a bit chaotic around here lately. A new rescue fawn, who was very touch-and-go for a few days. A paralysed deer found in a horse paddock on the Gold Coast unable to stand, and currently living in our gift shop 😩. Deaths of two of our senior deer, making our hearts heavy and slow. And now Cyclone Alfred’s nasty cousin has surprised us, let’s call him Albert. He’s worse than Alfred! We’ve lost power, it’s freezing cold, and there is so much wind with branches down, roofs blown off, fences down, mess everywhere. And apparently it will get worse tonight! 🤯 I am wrapped in a blanket sitting with the little deer, trying to keep them calm. We won’t be open extra days this week, but of course you can still visit during our normal hours, 10am-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays. We will reassess for extra holiday opening days next week

We are so happy about the sunshine this weekend! Crisp air, happy deer, mountain magic, doing good in the world - perfect ingredients for an adventure. This is Snowy, and she loves adventures. She nearly died when she got caught in a fence as a baby, but luckily she was rescued by some kind people and now lives her best life here at the Sanctuary 🥰. Come visit Snowy and all her friends, and help us continue our work of rescuing injured, abandoned and displaced deer in Australia!

OK King Winter, I guess it’s your time now. We are ready, with our warm fire and our warm furry friends. Boots. Hoodies. And always armed with our sense of adventure. Hopefully the weather will be drier for Sunday if you want to come share our warm furries for a few hours

Pop in and visit our crazy place! Pat deer, cuddle guinea pigs, feed goats, get out in nature for a few minutes and reset for the week! At least you don’t have baby deer and chickens on your lounge 🤣

It’s raining. Don’t visit today. It’s awful and muddy and slippery and slimy. It hasn’t really stopped raining and dried up since Alfred, so sick of it! 😩
