🙋‍♀️ Yes, I sat down in the paddock to have break for just a minute, and Merry flopped down beside me, and it’s exactly what I needed…
Wow the world is crazy at the moment. Too much. If you feel the same and you are around Brisbane, pop in and hang out with the deer for a while. And have a chat. With a person, or a deer. Or an angry rooster, just watch your fingers

Oooh, good work Sunshine, you’ve nearly dried up all the mud! 😅 We are all enjoying the warmth on our skin (and fur). Hopefully it will hang around for the weekend! I still wouldn’t wear white shoes to visit, but ay least you won’t need knee-high gum boots!

I always explain to visitors that our deer don’t know they are deer, they think they’re part of the family. Because they are. They have names, personalities, quirks, favourite snacks and individual needs. Merry has always loved being close to the fire, dozing and gazing into it. She’s the kind of weirdo who sits so close to the fire or heater that one side of her face gets burning hot and everyone yells at her to stop blocking the heat! (Umm, TBH, I’m one of those weirdos too 🙋‍♀️🔥) Anyway, it’s not super cold here in Brisbane yet but the nights are definitely chilling and the fire makes everything more cheerful. Thanks so much to David, Fiona and Ruby for the fairytale pyramid of firewood in the shed - should keep humans and deer warm and cheerful all winter! 🥰 🪵

It’s rained for like two weeks straight, so when I say it’s muddy, I mean the ground is super-saturated and sloshy and slippery and we are up to our ankles in some spots! So PLEASE, please wear boots or old shoes and ‘farm clothes’ if you want to visit today 🥾🌳🦌

So cold and windy last weekend, and busy! I guess people wanted to get out and have little adventures in the sunshine and fresh air. There were still lovely quiet moments of connection to be found though, like this glorious photo of Obi with his little friend 💕. Afternoons are always quieter, and the light on the trees and mountains is so beautiful 🏔️ 🦌

Amazing metamorphosis happening at the moment - living flesh changing to bone for the Rusa stags. Scroll to see the difference from a few weeks ago! The velvet fur that delivers nutrients to the growing antler over the last few months is not needed anymore, so it is shedding to reveal the new bone underneath. The blood supply to the velvet has stopped, so it is just dead tissue now and rubbing it off is painless (but can look gruesome!) You may be lucky enough to spot the boys during this process when you visit this weekend 🥰
