๐พโ WHEN IT RAINS... IT POURS โ๐พ
Some days in rescue you walk into the veterinary clinic expecting a quick check-up... and walk out with another plan of action.
Our Magical Unicorn Princess ๐ฆโจ Miss Piggy returned to the DOGtors this morning for a post-dental recheck to make sure her extraction site was healing well.
The good news is that everything is looking as it should. There was a tiny amount sitting in the extraction pocket, however after a very close examination DOGtor Ang believes it is most likely just a small amount of healing tissue and nothing to be concerned about. We'll continue to monitor it closely, but at this stage Piggy is healing beautifully. ๐
Then... because rescue never seems to stop at just one thing...
Whilst looking over Piggy's examination notes from her dental, I noticed a notation against her remaining eye that read "corneal scarring."
As many of you know, Piggy only has one eye, so there was no way I was going to simply ignore that.
DOGtor Ang agreed.
She examined Piggy's eye, applied a special dye and tried to determine whether we were looking at an old scar or something more concerning. Unfortunately, it wasn't immediately clear.
Rather than guess, she photographed Piggy's eye and has sent the images to Dr Guy โ our Eye Guy ๐๏ธ, the specialist who removed Piggy's other eye.
In the meantime, Piggy has started Ocuflox eye drops four times a day and we'll be back on Monday for another examination to see whether anything has changed.
Sometimes the best medicine is knowing when to ask another expert.
And whilst all of this is happening with our NSWBTR Retire-A-Bulls...
I also have my own little family to care for.
On Tuesday, my beautiful deaf girl, Kylie Kolly Waffle ๐, will be heading to the DOGtors for a third opinion on a lump on her front leg.
It was originally diagnosed as a furunculosis and we've monitored it over time, but despite repeated visits it has continued to grow. It has now started bleeding and Kylie has begun limping.
Those of you who know me know I'm a big believer in trusting your instincts. Mine are telling me it's time to dig deeper.
If that means surgery, we'll do surgery.
If that means a specialist, we'll see a specialist.
Sometimes people forget that foster carers don't just care for rescue dogs.
We have our own dogs too.
They share their home, their beds, their humans and often their lives with every rescue dog that comes through our doors. They are patient, they teach, they comfort... and when it's their turn to need us, they deserve exactly the same love, care and advocacy.
So yes... this week it's been Piggy.
Next week it's Kylie.
And we'll be there for both of them.
Thank you for standing beside rescue and making it possible for us to continue saying YES when our retirees need veterinary care. And if you could spare a little thought for Kylie on Tuesday too, this dog mum would be incredibly grateful. ๐พ๐
