We’re very pleased to welcome Dr Claire O’Leary MVB back to Ballarat Equine Clinic!

After working in Ireland and Canada in mixed and large animal practice, Claire completed an 18-month Equine Internship with us in June 2025. She then stayed on through to September and now returns as an associate!

Claire has a strong interest in lameness and equine medicine and particularly enjoys those challenging cases that require a little extra detective work.

Outside work, she enjoys riding, eventing, running, hiking, surfing and skiing.

And if you’ve met Claire before, you’ll know she’s easy to find; just listen for that hearty laugh. 😄

After several years shadowing both veterinary and nursing staff, this young man has fulfilled a lifelong dream and finally secured a permanent position.

🐈 While he has no veterinary qualifications that we are aware of, he has displayed an impressive commitment to assisting team members across all facets of practice life.

He has been a true team player; responsible for boosting the morale of staff and clients alike. Roving duties have included everything from reception work, consultations, after-hours nursing care and strategic seat warming.

Continuing the long tradition of Ballarat Equine Clinic’s involvement in Australia’s premier equine veterinary conference:

Dr Travis Smyth presented two lectures:

-Kissing spine: is surgery always the right option?
- Medical treatment of pleuropneumonia / How I approach thoracotomy

Dr Daniel Lightley, Dr Holly Taylor and Dr Kaida Wouters submitted scientific posters.

Dr Tom Dolan, Dr Nina Hounsome and Dr Claire OLeary attended lectures.

Clinic Manager, Jessie Koene helped organise the Equine Veterinary Nurses Conference which was also attended by two members of our nursing team, Kasey and Annie.

And… Dr Brian Anderson has been elected as the president of Equine Veterinarians Australia!
