KNOW THE SIGNS OF DOG HEATSTROKE

If something doesn’t look right or you think your dog has heatstroke follow these instructions-

https://share.google/aimode/WlBNL3X0HgQ0TXUWW

Immediate First Aid (While Getting to the Vet)
2. Move to Cool: Get your dog out of the heat into shade or air conditioning.
4. Cool Gradually: Gently wet their fur with cool (not cold) water, avoiding the head; focus on the stomach, neck, and paw pads.
6. Increase Airflow: Use a fan or AC to blow air over their wet skin for evaporative cooling.
8. Offer Water: Let them drink small amounts, but don't force it.
10. Call Ahead: Contact your vet or emergency hospital while en route.

What NOT to Do
* Don't use ice or ice-cold water: This can constrict blood vessels and hinder cooling.
* Don't wrap them in a wet towel: This traps heat; use cool water and fanning instead.

Why See a Vet Immediately?
* Heatstroke causes severe internal damage, even if your dog seems better.
* Vets provide critical support like IV fluids, oxygen, and organ monitoring.

….. Our pets safety depends on us …..

Extreme Heat warning for Sunraysia / Mallee –

The extreme heat temperature this week will affect not just us as humans but our animals both wild and domesticated.

Please have a plan in place. Preparation to support your animals survive, stay hydrated & cool.
Depending on our pets health some don’t cope as well as others.

Here are some ways to help keep them safe & stay comfortable:

- PLEASE Never Leave Them In The Car, Even In The Shade Or With The Windows Down.

- In the worst of the heat, keep them inside even if they are normal outside!

- Keep an eye on panting, wobbliness, being lethargic, vomiting or bright red gums, drooling.
If suspected heat stroke, move them to a cool spot and apply cool (not cold) water to their belly, paws, and neck.

- Use frozen treats (like Kongs), provide kiddie pools

- Clean & cool water refreshed with ice cubes or plastic ice blocks placed in a few rooms inside your home.
Don't use freezing cold water: This can cause blood vessels to constrict, trapping heat inside their bodies.

- Check paths and roads with your own feet and hands. If you can’t touch the ground without feeling the heat, your dog can’t either.

- Save walks for early morning or later at night depending on the heat of those times.

- Damp shady areas outside if they want short spells outside. Use cooling mats or damp towels for them to lie on inside the home or hard flooring in air conditioned draft areas.
