In just 48 hours, we’ve been reminded of what an incredible community we are part of.

Thursday night’s post has brought in hundreds of comments, hundreds of offers to help, and more messages and emails than we can keep up with. You have truly rallied behind us, and we are completely blown away.

We’ve seen donations of food, supplies, and money that go far beyond what we could have hoped for. People have been walking into stores, buying things just for SARG, and dropping them off. We’ve seen bags of food, boxes of supplies, and the kind of generosity that makes your heart ache in the best way.

The donations have left us especially humbled. We know times are hard. We know that the cost of living and housing stress are affecting everyone. Yet so many of you have chosen to give to us instead of buying something for yourselves. That is one of the kindest, most selfless acts we can imagine.

We have cried more than once in the last two days. Tears of gratitude, tears of relief, tears because we are reminded that there are still so many good people out there who care deeply about animals.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. The animals thank you. You’ve given them love, hope, and a second chance.

Pictured here is sweet Mila with her foster carer. Yesterday she saw the vets, started medication, and now has a treatment plan in place. She is safe, cared for, and feeling love again—thanks to you.

We are pleased to share that SARG has been successful in our recent grant application through the Department of Agriculture (DEECA) Victoria.

This funding will have a significant impact on animal welfare across our region, and we are proud to be able to offer further support to the local community.

As part of this initiative, we will be rolling out a desexing programme for cats and dogs over four rounds across a 12-month period. The goal is to reduce unwanted litters and improve the wellbeing of pets in our area.

We are currently preparing for launch and anticipate opening the programme to the community at the end of August 2025.

To be eligible, you must:
✅ Hold a healthcare, pension or concession card, or be considered a low-income household (earning less than $65,000 per year)
✅ Not have already accessed a previous desexing programme in the Sunraysia region

Animal requirements include:
🐶 Dogs: Must be over 6 months old (small breeds) or 12 months old (large breeds)
🐱 Cats: Must weigh at least 2kg and be free of ringworm
🐾 All animals must be able to be safely handled by unfamiliar people. Animals that are reactive or aggressive cannot be accepted

There will be an application process with limited places available for each round.

SARG is completely volunteer-run, and every person involved plays an integral role in supporting the care and welfare of animals in our community.

Further details, including how to apply, will be shared soon.

We thank DEECA Victoria for supporting this important work.

The Animal World lost a beautiful soul the other day due to online bullying. I feel that I need to share this story in the hope it might stop this constant ongoing trolling that the animal world seems to be brimming with

I filmed with the selfless Mikayla in February when I flew to SaveAFox in Minnesota to cover her incredible story of how she was gradually shutting down all the fox fur farms in the USA. I saw first hand how amazing she was. Not doing any of this for stardom or adoration but simply as saving the animals made her feel whole. She told me about her sadness that she couldn’t fix all the animal abuse and lived with her terrors nightly which affected her deeply due to her empathetic personality. She could not sleep at night and would stay up to all hours of the morning.

Mikayla also suffered from autism and social anxiety which meant it was very hard for her to even film with me so we gave her plenty of breaks so she could centre herself again.

I knew of some online trolling going on towards Mikayla’s work and even experienced some trolls pop by this page to leave nasty comments. They were swiftly blocked. What is NOT OK is these same nasty online cowards pushed the already fragile Mikayla down such a dark path that she felt that there was no way out other than to end her life.

Now I see online trolling and bullying daily here on Facebook and I’m constantly blocking people, but what is NOT OK is that many of the trolls are from the animal community. These ‘so called’ animal lovers think it’s ok to trash incredible rescuers such as Mikayla due to perhaps jealousy, incorrect rumours and narcissistic tendencies. The animal world should be sticking together. We should be elevating one another, not destroying the valuable work many of us do.

I rescued dogs many years back and felt the need to leave due to the constant fighting and bickering between rescues which made the whole rescue world unbearable to be part of. I had to take an entire year out of social media to recover. So if someone a little tougher than Mikayla can be affected, just imagine what these bullies did to a fragile, empath who didn’t like hate or confrontation.

Whoever did this should be deeply ashamed of yourselves and take a big look in the mirror and realise what disgusting individuals you are. I’ve been told the nasty comments have even come from those Mikayla knew and trusted. We all know Mikayla would not have wanted online fighting but I think those who drove her to this should be subjected to the same torment that she did..

Horrifyingly I was told yesterday that the rumours still continue about her death, some even suggesting that her animals killed her. Whoever is doing this, STOP NOW!

Please carry on supporting SaveAFox as Ethan her husband has vowed to carry it on in her name and make it just as powerful for change as it ever has been.
Please donate to SaveAFox in Mikayla’s name Saveafox Corporation

I hope you find some peace now Mikayla and know that you touched my heart when I visited and I’m so glad to have met you 🦊
