🩷 Lope & Hope For A Cure 2025 🩷

Last weekend Dunupingold GJC and I attended our first Lope & Hope Show in Tully. Against some tough little horses, Penny and I managed to win Junior Horse High Point for the weekend! Our second ever ridden western show and my little pony just keeps on giving!

A huge thank you to North Queensland Western Performance Horse Club for organising and running such a great show! We’ll be back next year!

Equine Herpes Virus and Pregnant Mares

There has been lots of talk recently regarding EHV given the recent neurological case in Townsville and the abortions in Towoomba.

🐴 Abortions due to EHV will generally occur between 8-10 months of gestation and if strict biosecurity and infection control practices are not followed a single abortion can be followed within a couple of weeks by a ‘storm’ of abortions on the same property.

Our advice for a vaccination protocol for broodmares:

💉 Primary course of 2 vaccines administered 4-6 weeks apart followed by 3 doses administered during each pregnancy at 5,7 and 9 months of pregnancy.

📖 Studies show significant differences between abortion rates in vaccinated vs unvaccinated mares.

💉 It is recommended that ALL horses on breeding farms are vaccinated, with non-pregnant horses receiving 6 monthly boosters after the initial primary course.

Frankie is a beautiful rising 2 year old filly by the world renowned super sire, Franklin. Her sire needs no introduction as he has taken the dressage world by storm. Frankie’s dam was a performance mare herself, before retiring to become a Broodmare.

Frankie is extremely well handled, can float, be caught easily, ties up, gets her feet trimmed regularly, can be washed and is up to date with all vaccines. She is a very sweet and kind natured filly, who wants to be with you all day long.

Frankie will stay on the smaller side (15hh roughly) and be suited to a competitive home with such great bloodlines behind her.

Located Mareeba, 1 hour west of Cairns airport. Vet checks welcomed. Blemish and scar free.

We recently had our 6 monthly dental day here at GJC Performance Horses. As part of our routine care for our horses, Sundance Veterinary Services attends to everyone for 6 monthly dental checks, annual vaccinations and also any other concerns we may have.

This time around we had 18 dentals, and endless Hendra vaccines, Duvaxyn vaccines and 2in1 vaccines. We also scanned one of our broodmares to check on the foal to make sure it was developing nicely. 🧡
