🐴 Meet Our Horses & Ponies 🐴

At From the Ground Up Equestrian Centre, every horse and pony has their own personality and strengths. We carefully match riders with the horse that best suits their confidence and experience level.

🧡 Jo-Jo
Our gentle senior schoolmaster. Jo-Jo loves helping beginner riders learn the basics of riding, steering, stopping, and building confidence. He is patient, kind, and knows his job well.

💛 Rylee
A quiet and sensible gelding who enjoys helping riders improve their balance, steering, and riding aids. Rylee likes clear instructions and rewards riders who communicate well with him.

🩷 Sweetie
A sweet Standardbred mare who is perfect for riders wanting to build confidence. She enjoys calm, relaxed lessons and helps riders develop patience and consistency.

💙 Russell
A handsome grey Standardbred gelding who enjoys having a job and helps riders continue developing their riding skills. Russell is a willing partner who rewards riders with confidence and consistency.

💙 Jaxon
Our little Shetland pony with a big personality! Jaxon is fantastic for younger riders learning the basics and building confidence around horses. He is patient, fun, and enjoys helping children begin their horse-riding journey.

❤️ Uno
A friendly Shetland pony who helps teach horse care, grooming, leading, and horsemanship skills. Uno enjoys spending time with people and reminds riders that building trust starts from the ground up.

🧡 MJ
Our young Shetland stallion who helps riders learn about horse behaviour, body language, and respectful handling. MJ is a much-loved member of the herd and enjoys learning new things every day.

Riley & Jaxon 🌟
Another fantastic lesson for Riley and Jaxon today! 🐴❤️
Riley continued building her confidence in the saddle while practising balance, steering, and control around our obstacle course activities. She rode with a big smile and showed great focus throughout the lesson.
Jaxon once again proved why he is such a special lesson pony. His calm, patient nature helps young riders feel safe and confident while they learn new skills and enjoy their time around horses.
We are very proud of both Riley and Jaxon and look forward to seeing what they achieve next lesson! 💙🐴

Sweetie was clearly feeling pretty good today too. After having a lovely roll, she jumped back up, shook her head, struck out with her front leg, and took off feeling fresh and happy across the paddock. Moments like these are always lovely to see and are a great reminder of how important turnout, relaxation, and allowing horses to just be horses really is.

✨ Beginner Confidence Building with Jo-Jo ✨
Even though Jo-Jo isn’t doing much fast work anymore as he gets older, he is still absolutely loving his role teaching beginner riders the ropes of horse riding and horsemanship. ❤️
From learning how to sit balanced in the saddle, steering, and stopping, to building confidence around horses, grooming, handling, and understanding horse behaviour — Jo-Jo continues to quietly teach every rider that climbs aboard him.
There’s something special about an older horse who knows his job so well. Jo-Jo may be semi-retired from harder work, but he is still helping create calm, safe, positive experiences for our beginner riders and we are so proud of him for that. 🐴

At From the Ground Up Equestrian Centre we believe riding lessons are about more than just riding — they’re about building confidence, connection, and horsemanship skills from the ground up.
And that is exactly why we are called “From the Ground Up” — because every great horseperson starts with the basics: trust, confidence, respect, connection, and understanding the horse both on the ground and in the saddle.

Today was a very scary day for our beautiful retired boy Rushy. 💔

Rushy suffered a severe choke episode and required an emergency vet visit. The vet attended quickly and had to pass a tube through his nostril to help clear the blockage. Due to the severity of the choke, there was some bleeding from his nose afterward, which the vet advised can happen in serious cases.

Thankfully, after treatment and close monitoring, the bleeding stopped and Rushy settled calmly with his herd mates nearby. The vet described it as one of the worst choke cases she has seen, so we are incredibly grateful he pulled through.

At 28 years old, Rushy’s teeth are very worn and loose, which makes chewing difficult and likely contributed to the choke. Because of this, he will now be on a soft soaked-feed diet while his throat heals, with no hay for the next 5 days as advised by the vet.

A very special thank you to Susan, whose calm thinking, quick actions, and deep love for these horses made all the difference today. ❤️ Rushy is so lucky to have someone who knows him so well, notices the smallest changes, and treats him like family every single day. The care, dedication, and heart Susan puts into every horse around her never goes unnoticed, and today was another reminder of just how much she truly does for them.

Please keep our sweet old man in your thoughts while he recovers. ❤️

🌿🐴 The boys are truly living the retirement dream 🐴🌿
Rushy and Diff spending their days doing what horses should be able to do — roaming paddocks, grazing with friends, soaking up the sunshine, and just enjoying life at their own pace 💛
Seeing them out in big open spaces with Susan’s herd has honestly been one of the best decisions for them. They have room to move, friends around them, plenty of feed, and the freedom to simply be horses again.
From riding school horses to relaxed paddock boys — they’ve earned this life 🫶
Rushy still keeps an eye on everything like the wise old man of the herd, while Diff settled in like he’d always belonged there. Watching them happy and content makes every hard decision worth it.
Retirement doesn’t mean forgotten — if anything, it means loved enough to let them just enjoy life 💚🐎

🐴💛 Sometimes the best friendships are the ones horses choose themselves 💛🐴
Sweetie was standing quietly with her tack on during a lesson break, while Diff wandered over on his own and decided to stop beside her for a graze 🌿
No fences keeping them together.
No one asking him to stay.
Just Diff choosing to be near Sweetie 🐴✨
Little moments like this say a lot about herd bonds, trust, and the calm environment we aim to create at From the Ground Up Equestrian Centre.
Even when roaming free, Diff still wanted to be part of the lesson in his own way 💛
