Beginners Dog Training classes – Enrol Now! 🐶

Our next Beginners Dog Training intake at Maitland Dog Obedience Club is coming up!

Group dog obedience classes, perfect for playful pups or dogs new to training, building skills together in a friendly and supportive environment.

🐾 Training Tip Tuesday 🐾

This week we're looking at a simple beginner-friendly stay signal and how to introduce it step by step.

Remember, every dog learns at their own pace. When training at home, try to set your dog up for success by working when they're calm, attentive and ready to learn. Adapt your hand height and focus to suit your dog's individual training stage.

If your dog breaks the stay, reset them calmly back into position and try again. Avoid repeating the cue too many times and reward success when they get it right.

Keep sessions short, fun and rewarding and celebrate the small successes along the way. Consistency and patience are key to building a reliable stay. 🐶✨

Unfortunately there will be no training this Sunday due to recent rainfall. Ground conditions on the field are currently unsuitable, and Maitland City Council have closed the grounds.

Also, a reminder that there will be no training next Sunday 7th June, due to the long weekend.

Consistent signals and clear communication help your dog understand exactly what’s being asked, while building confidence and engagement along the way.

🐾 Training Tip Tuesday – Figure 8 for Beginners Part 2 🐾

This week we’re continuing on with the Figure 8 by adding a sit and working on smoother turns together.

For beginners:
🐶 Go slow through the turns
🐶 Keep your dog close beside you
🐶 Reward attention and effort

🐾 Thank you to everyone who attended our Tricks Trial yesterday!

A huge thank you to our judges, stewards and volunteers who worked hard throughout the day, events like this simply wouldn’t happen without you.

And of course, congratulations to all competitors, qualifiers and title earners. We loved seeing so many dogs out there giving things a go, trying their best and having fun with their handlers 🐶✨
