Sunny Days Rescue & Rehab

Sunny Days Rescue & Rehab Sunny Days is a Registered Charity with a 100% Volunteer-Run Animal Shelter in Lara, Victoria. Donate here paypal.me/sunnydaysrescuerehab

Sunny Days Rescue & Rehab is a registered charity with a network of foster homes across Melbourne and Geelong, and a No Kill, volunteer run shelter in Lara, Victoria. We focus predominantly on the rescue, rehab and rehoming of street-born cats, as well as dogs not being picked up by other rescue organisations, arranged for euthanasia by owners and vets have intervened, and greyhounds exited from t

he racing industry. We are 100% volunteer run and self/community funded, please read on to find out more about our important work and how you can help. MORE ABOUT OUR WORK WITH CATS:
Our Stray Cat Rehabilitation Centre, was purpose built by previous owners to house the breeding of German Shepherds. In 2017 we gained ownership of the property and developed this building into 'The Cat Cottage’, which provides long term housing in bright, colourful, fully enclosed group pens capable of housing 8 cats each, in a tranquil setting surrounded by nature. We take in full stray cat colonies, pregnant and nursing mothers, orphaned kittens, FIV positive cats, and sick or injured cats who are humanely trapped after being identified as un-owned - we don't take in domesticated cats and have extensive processes to ensure cats are true strays, as opposed to owned cats who have ended up in traps. ABOUT OUR WORK WITH DOGS:
Given we take in dogs who most often have ended up homeless due to behaviour issues, some minor, some serious, most of our dogs are with us for extended periods to ensure we know them really well before putting them up for adoption. We have all our dogs assessed by professional dog trainers, with some going on to have extensive behaviour work whilst in our care. We provide full discretion with adopters about dogs' health and behaviour as well as ongoing support to integrate adopted dogs into new homes, families and lifestyles. The success and longevity of our dog adoptions is very important to us because we refuse to see our dogs end up back in the system. Because of this we rarely have dogs returned, but to ensure we can help our dogs for the entirety of their life if for some reason their adopter is no longer able to love and care for them, we offer a lifetime guarantee to accept them back no matter what the reason, age of the dog at this stage, or health status. The few dogs we've had returned in our 5 years (as of 2022) have been due to no fault of their own and have been easily re-adopted into new homes where they have stayed.

* Note we provide this policy for our cats also

OUR OBJECTIVES ARE:
 to remove complete stray cat colonies from the community and ensure they never breed return to the street again,
 to demonstrate the potential to rehab unsocialised cats to other organisations who may not have understood or attempted to achieve that potential before,
 to educate the community on the stray cat problem in Australia and that desexing is the only way to lessen these numbers and the resulting suffering,
 to physically and psychologically rehabilitate dogs and cats and find them homes which understand their needs and are compassionate to their history,
 to provide an opportunity for volunteers to learn high level animal husbandry and handling which may assist their future work in animal welfare and as pet owners,
 to provide an opportunity for compassionate people to come together and pool skills for the betterment of animals who may otherwise be stuck in the system or lose their life. WE NEED YOUR HELP

Kitten Proof ≠ Bullet Proof 🛡️

Desexing is essential—but it’s not a shield against the dangers of the outside world.

Yes, it stops the cycle of unwanted kittens.
Yes, it softens behavior's driven by hormones.
But no, it doesn’t make your cat safe to free roam.

🚗 Cars still kill.
🐍 Snakes still strike.
🐾 Entire males still chase.
⚔️ Cat fights still happen.
🌧️ Storm drains still swallow.
🦘Wildlife still suffers.
🤯Dangers still lurk

And here's the kicker: Once desexed, the hormones fade… and containment becomes so much easier.
They don’t need to roam. They don’t need to fight. They don’t need to stray.
They start to relax. Settle. Stay home.
💥 Desexing is step one.
🏠 Containment is step two.
📿 Love is both.

🚨Kitten season is almost here, and we need foster carers now! 🚨

Unfortunately kitten season is just around the corner, and soon we'll inundated with death row requests from pounds across the state to save cute kittens just like these 🥺

But we need more foster carers to help us, and we need more donations of funds, otherwise cute cuddly kittens like these get euthanised by pounds to make space. We’re a small rescue and we don’t have anything more than the support of our community and the love of our volunteers. Vet fees often times mean we can’t save as many cats and kittens as we’d like, and without homes to send them to they face certain death at the hands of these pounds.

If you have room in your home temporarily and can handle the zoomies, chaos and love kittens bring, then you might just be the difference between life and death for a kitten 🐾

We'll provide all vet care and promotion to get them adopted, we just need photo updates from you (who can resist taking snaps of them anyway 😉)

💌Simply fill out the form in the link below or send us a message and become part of our foster carer crew before kitten season hits full swing! (Criteria for fostering will be discussed).

NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW !
Are YOU picking up what we are putting down here?
DO NOT WAIT! MAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY YOUR PRIORITY!

Every week we delay, more kittens are born into a world already bursting at the seams. Rescues, pounds, and foster carers are breaking under the weight of unwanted litters, and this has been relentless since last spring! Putting this off now until later is a disaster that is going to happen.

This is not just an appointment. It’s prevention. It’s protection. It’s mercy.

🚨UPDATE; NOW BEING FOSTERED THROUGH ANOTHER RESCUE. WE’RE GRATEFUL HE HAS BEEN SAVED.PLEASE INBOX US FOR THEIR DETAILS IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO APPLY TO THEM TO ADOPT🚨

‼️ Re-posting this as the photo did not upload in our post yesterday. Also the date mentioned in the email to us appears to be wrong, Bud has until this Friday or will be put to sleep, please comment if you can help and we will contact you. * we do not have any info on Bud being cat or child friendly so best he goes to home without either at this point although teenage kids would be fine. Secure backyard essential.

URGENT: This dog has 4 days to find a foster or forever home or will be killed. He sounds like a lovely boy who will make someone very happy going to the beach, park, camping, running, bike, anything really! Can you help us save Bud?

This is the email we received;

Good afternoon.
I am urgently reaching out as the below dog has been given until Friday 29th September 2025 (4 days) to find a new home or he will be euthanised to make room in our pound facility.

‘Bud’ Amstaff. DOB 27/04/21. MC 956000014811264

Bud is a very sweet and energetic boy who is full of life. He has lived rough on the streets with his owner, sleeping in tents, swags, parks and couch surfing. His life has been surrounded by drugs, alcohol, abusive behaviour and no stability. Aside from this, we have found Bud to be a sweet and loyal boy. He gets along with other dogs well, however smaller dogs (your typical white fluffies) he can become boisterous with but this is not aggression. He enjoys the company of other dogs however does prefer to go off on his own and do his own thing. It appears he is indifferent to them being around which is a positive.

Bud has lived with 2 other dogs his whole life and recently became a father to 7 pups.

He is very responsive to commands and easy to be walked on a leash. His favourite thing in the world is exercising and sun bathing on the grass rolling over for tummy rubs 😍

Bud can bark however this appears to only be in a pound situation where he is wanting attention and frustrated as he cannot get out of his pen. He could be destructive and or prone to escaping given he has had no boundaries or stable environment to teach him where he can and cannot go. I believe if he is exercised well and cared for, this certainly won’t be a problem!

Bud is most deserving of a second chance and he has found his way to us through no fault of his own. I am desperately trying to find him a safe, secure, and stable environment where he can learn what it feels like to be absolutely adored.

Please comment if you can provide a temporary foter home, longer term foster home (until adopted which as a dog friendly dog shouldn't be too long) or would like us to get him out of the pound so you can adopt him. If you can't do any of this please share. Thankyou.

😸FOSTER FAILS😸

Oops, we’ve had 2 more foster fails, which is just code for cats their foster carers couldn’t let go because they’d imprinted themselves on their hearts 💕

We have Tux, who we posted about not long ago, who came to his foster carer from our cat cottage and has since got on so well with the resident cats that he’s made himself right at home. Who wouldn’t fall in love with this fluffy distinguished gentleman 🐾

And we have Kuzco, formerly Gin, who came to us in February as part of our big death row kitten intake. Originally very skittish and unable to be petted, he’s now a love bug who follows his humans and cat friends around meowing for attention 🐾

Congratulations to you both ❤️

Bud is a very sweet and energetic, bouncy boy, who is absolutely full of life.
He has lived rough on the streets with his owner, sleeping in tents, swags, parks, toilet blocks and couch surfing with randoms. His life has been surrounded by drugs, alcohol, abusive behaviour and no stability whatsoever.

Aside from this, we have found Bud to be such a sweet and loyal boy. He gets along with other dogs well, however smaller dogs (your typical white fluffies) may tend to trigger his prey drive, and he can become more boisterous with them, but I reiterate this is not aggression. Aside from this, he enjoys the company of other dogs, however, does prefer to go off on his own and do his own thing. It appears he is indifferent to them being around.

Bud has lived with X2 other dogs his whole life and recently adapted to being a father to X7 puppies also.

Given his past history, he is surprisingly responsive to commands, food motivated, and easy to be walked on a leash. His favourite thing in the world is exercising, and not to mention his love for sun bathing on the grass and rolling over for tummy rubs.

KITTENS AREN’T AN ACCIDENT. PUPPIES AREN’T AN ACCIDENT.
They’re born because someone didn’t desex.
And that “someone” is too often you, your mate, or the person down the road who “just didn’t get around to it.”

💔 That’s what’s killing animals.
💥 That’s what’s overwhelming shelters.
🧠 That’s what’s breaking the backs of carers everywhere.

Spring is almost here and we still have kittens in care.
More litters are coming.
More heartbreak. More death.

You want to help?
Desex. Advocate. Take action.
We’ve got low-cost options.
We’ve got Kitten Club.

This is how we stop the flood.
This is how we help what we already have.
