Well worth a read

There is a lot more that goes on in the breeding process of experienced working dog studs than most people are aware of. For instance, the latest use of Paddy's Shadow frozen semen to a great granddaughter of his, is not just about line breeding to Shadow himself. More importantly, it is about consolidating a very special line of dogs that all go back to Karrawarra Sybil III.

The image below shows how strong her influence in Paddy's Shadow alone is! And then the sensational Shanahans Loo also appears in the first 3 most influential ancestors. Yes, these bi***es have been dead for a long time, but very cleaver breeding has allowed them to be the 'most influential' ancestors in dogs alive today!

Below is a passage from Tony Parsons book The Kelpie. He bred and owned her.

"It would be remiss of me not to include the smartest Kelpie bitch I've ever had through my hands - Karrawarra Sybil 3rd. Sybil was one of the super-intelligent dogs I've written about in the past; not the best three-sheep bitch I've owned but she was the brainiest by far: She was born broken-in, a natural caster, moved like a dream and had a beautiful break. Gordon McMaster saw her and said she was Rockybar Bassey all over again, a huge compliment considering what he thought about Bassey. Sybil was almost human and understood just about everything I said to her. Immensely acrobatic, she would fly over a barbed wire fence and climb a stack of hay like a cat.
If all of that wasn't enough, Sybil was a great brood bitch and produced many outstanding dogs such as Karrawarra Trimmer, K Don, K Rockett, K Speed (USA), K Special Girl, K Tiffany, K Cyd, KNed and many more. I can't remember how many people said she was the best Kelpie bitch they'd ever seen, and I don't doubt that she was. Her hind leg was badly broken and she finished the last couple of years of her life on three legs, and she was still as good as most dogs on four.
An old bitch called Allandale Swift, bred from two Karrawarra dogs I sold Mrs Glynis Boyce of Felton (Queensland) was the best three-sheep bitch I have had since coming to Queensland in 1984. She had some of the old Kelpie magic at the obstacles and was better than Sybil at purely three-sheep work but everywhere else Sybil would have rolled her.
An old Border Collie man gave A Swift to me when she was only five months old.
He said she was as good at five months old as any Border Collie he'd ever owned
I let Pat Murphy have her as he was starting off in trials at this stage and he ran a 93 with her at the Roma trials, but she's never got near Sybil as a brood bitch. In Swift's last litter I got a dog called Coster and he's got some of her magic. Karrawarra Lizzie,a daughter of Shanahan's Loo, was almost up to Sybil in cleverness. I taught Lizzie to ride a horse ba****ck.
Sybil was a memorable bitch, one of a long line of bi***es that has kept the Karra-warra stud firing. Slim and leggy, she always looked well and there was no yard that could contain her. I would never have sold her no matter how much I was offered."
