Today Sarah and Michael share the sad news of the passing of Sarah’s grandfather, Terence "Terry" Bennett, on 11 June 2026, aged 81.

Many people throughout the sheep industry will have known Terry as an exceptional stockman, sheep breeder and stud master whose passion for livestock and commitment to genetic improvement spanned decades.

Terry and Thelma established the Bark Hut Poll Dorset stud on Kangaroo Island in 1965. The stud was formed from Terry’s parent’s Heatherdale stud. Through his dedication, keen eye for stock and unwavering pursuit of quality genetics, Terry developed a flock that earned the respect of many breeders and producers over the years. His influence extended far beyond his own paddocks and will continue to be reflected in the many flocks carrying his genetics today.

We were fortunate to purchase the Poll Dorset Stud from Terry and Thelma in 2008, and it is something we remain incredibly proud of. The genetics and breeding principles he spent a lifetime developing continue to form the backbone of our stud today, ensuring that his legacy lives on through every generation that follows.

While Terry will be deeply missed by his family and friends, his contribution to the sheep industry and the livestock he so passionately bred will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts are with our Nanna Thelma, our family, and all those who knew and respected him.

Rest easy, Terry. Your legacy continues.

Funeral Service for Terence Robert (Terry) Bennett, to be held at the Anglican Church of St Albans, Kingscote, at 10.30am on Friday, 26 June 2026.

Following the service, a graveside burial will take place, with a wake to follow at the Kingscote Bowling Club.
