H5N1 Avian Influenza (Bird Flu)

H5N1 High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza has now been confirmed in Australia for the first time. This disease is highly contagious and is circulating globally, causing severe illness and mortality in a wide range of bird species. It is known to transfer to mammals and can be transmitted to humans.

Wildlife - if you find a sick or dead bird, DO NOT TOUCH IT OR MOVE IT. Please contact the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

Pets - for pet birds or backyard poultry, please call us and discuss the clinical signs over the phone.

Please do not bring unwell birds into the clinic without first contacting us. If you are concerned, give us or the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline a call.
