An example of why we refer to GARS 🥰
Amazing humans doing all they can 🐾

Today, we pause to honour the courage and sacrifice of all those who served, both human and canine. As we remember the brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom, we also pay tribute to the loyal dogs who served alongside them.

These brave K9s played critical roles in battle, from detecting explosives to offering comfort and companionship to our soldiers. Their sacrifice deserves our recognition, and today, we remember them just as we remember those fallen.

GARS is proud to serve our pets with the same dedication and heart. Lest we forget, the heroes who gave everything for us, two legs or four.

Lest We Forget.

It is Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Week 🙌
The first person you see when coming in to the clinic holds a very important role, requiring kindness, professionalism, charm, compassion, resilience and a whole lot more!!
All of our Nurses spend time at Reception also, however we have one awesome human who manages our reception area incredibly well🥰
We may be biased but we feel Kelly is the best Veterinary Receptionist our team and community could hope for.🩺🐾💞

Last month we welcomed a new Veterinarian to the team, Dr Wen!

Wen completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Melbourne in 2024. Originally from China, Wen was drawn to the vibrant community of Horsham and has been genuinely impressed by the town’s welcoming atmosphere and friendly locals.

Wen has a particular love for cats and enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine. Outside of work, she loves spending time in the kitchen cooking and making desserts. She looks forward to getting to know the Horsham community even more and meeting all the wonderful pets and their families who visit the clinic.🤗🩺💕

🩸🔬Blood Smears 🔬🩸
Here we have Cardi the adorable French Bulldog puppy, helping us examine her blood smear before her desexing procedure.🥰

A smear is just one of the many ways we can assess bloods in our patients, which involves spreading a small drop of blood onto a slide and looking at it under the microscope.
On the slide, we can see red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets; all of which are important to assess before having a surgery of any description.
🩸Red blood cells: We need to make sure that our patients aren’t anaemic, meaning they have enough red blood cells in their bodies to reduce risks caused from normal bleeding, and can also be an indication that their systems are stable enough for an anaesthetic. We also examine their size and shape to ensure they are all uniform and therefore function as they are supposed to.
🩸White blood cells: We check to make sure that there is not an unexpected increase in white blood cells which could indicate an infection or inflammation within the body.
🩸Platelets: We check to make sure there is a normal amount of platelets in the blood. Platelets are responsible for helping blood to clot, which is important before proceeding with any kind of procedure in order to reduce the risk of abnormal bleeding.

Cardi was given the all clear to go ahead with her procedure which went smoothly!🥰🐶🩺
