Welcome to Stuart Gandy Racing
Thoroughbred Training and Breaking in Tasmania

31/10/2026

Our thoughts and condolences are with the Whishaw family and everyone at Armidale Stud after the passing of Needs Further.

Needs Further has been an iconic Tasmanian stallion and has made a lasting impression on Tasmanian breeding and racing. We have been privileged to train some of his most talented progeny, with Needs Sugar, Zany Girl and Our Long Sali being the highlights for our stable.

We now look forward to preparing our Needs Further 2yos and yearlings for the racetrack and to continue the legacy Needs Further has left behind.
Rest peacefully Ned 🕊️

Nothing beats training a Tasbred horse for a passionate Tassie breeder.

Congratulations to Maureen Brosnan, Shaun Nichols Andrew Scanlon and all connections. It was fantastic to see these two fillies win their maidens in great style 👌

COPPER REIGN 🥇 PRIME THOROUGHBREDS

Thank you Robyn Whishaw for this lovely shot of “Winnie” after her win at Launceston with Kasi Boxall and Chloe Wells in the Prime Thoroughbreds silks… Those red and blue colours have had a very successful weekend and we are proud to be part of the Prime Team. Congratulations to Joe O’Neill and all owners and connections ❤️💙

Great results for the stable at Launceston last night with a winning double from Timely Needs and Geegees Downpour.

Super run from Material Madam to place third behind Downpour. Nice performances from the maidens, Sh’bourne Hiflyer and Vabuagi, running 2nd and 3rd. Well done to all connections and Team SGR 🙌

Great to have our Newmarket champ, Geegees Gemstone back in action at Longford Trials 👌
He trialled in great fashion with Chloe Wells aboard and we’re excited for the prep ahead!
